✉ / for hilda and mercedes

       ❛ You know, I haven’t wished for many things in my life. ❜ She says it idly, contentedly watching the clouds pass slowly through the sky overhead. Hilda’s company is familiar and always welcome, and there is a part of Mercedes that is loathe to use such a lovely day to sigh about the less pleasant things in life. But she’d be a hypocrite, wouldn’t she ? If she pretended that she was able to simply not think about her father’s letter ? It’s not life and death but it’s something and those kinds of things are better carried in the open than shut into the dark. It makes them seem less a mountain and more a molehill, and that’s all she really wants to do. 

       ❛ But – I suppose it doesn’t work like that. That if you refrain from wanting, you get something in return. — Huh, maybe this means I should have been far more selfish ! What a thought. ❜ Laughing at the humor that comes from a chaotic, untamable world, and she turns to Hilda bright-eyed. ❛ Maybe I’ll start right now. Instead of answering his letter, I’ll find something else to do. – Would you like to get dinner with me ? ❜

the night wasn’t cool enough to be cold, just cool enough that byleth could draw a soft, wool shall around her shoulders, and stand outside watching the moon. she heard dorothea approach -- it was hard to sneak up on the former mercenary -- but didn’t turn to look at her until she spoke. a soft smile pulled at the edges of her lips as she gave a gentle shake of her head. “i never had a mother to sing me lullabies, i kind of imagine by this point their magic wouldn’t work. but thank you dorothea, i’m sorry if i’m causing you to worry.”
