A segment from one of Fox News’ daytime “straight news” programs cited a study to claim that the COVID-19 vaccine caused millions of “excess deaths” in the U.S. The journal that published the study had clarified nearly a week earlier that this interpretation was false.
The study, published June 3, 2024, in the British Medical Journal, found that excess mortality rates in Western nations were high from 2020 to 2022 “despite the implementation of containment measures and COVID-19 vaccines.” The researchers also encouraged governments to examine the underlying causes of excess mortality to inform public health policy.
During the June 12 edition of America Reports, Fox anchor John Roberts characterized the findings differently: “A new study suggests COVID vaccines could be at least partially to blame for more than three million excess deaths in the United States and other countries from 2020 to 2022.”
[...]
Last week, multiple other right-wing media outlets (and at least one conservative British outlet) repeated the false narrative blaming the vaccine for excess deaths, prompting the British Medical Journal to issue a statement correcting the misinterpretation of the study’s findings.
Fox “News” and other right-wing outlets continue to amplify anti-COVID vaccine talking points, such as falsely blaming excess deaths on COVID vaccines.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), a rape survivor, insisted that President-elect Donald Trump, an accused rapist, has a mandate to "protect women" aft
David Edwards at Raw Story:
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), a rape survivor, insisted that President-elect Donald Trump, an accused rapist, has a mandate to "protect women" after winning the 2024 presidential contest.
[...]
"First thing I want to say is I have such great pride in my fellow countrymen," Mace remarked. "This was an absolute mandate to cut taxes, to deport those who are here illegally, and to protect women."
Mace said she was concerned that Republicans might "swindle this" and hoped they would "do a better job this time than last time, and we put Trump's agenda first."

Is Nancy Mace delulu or what? Donald Trump will NOT “protect women.”
From the 11.10.2024 edition of FNC's Fox News Live:
MIKE EMANUEL (GUEST ANCHOR): Mollie, congrats on the scoop. What more do you want to highlight from your reporting?
MOLLIE HEMINGWAY (FOX NEWS CONTRIBUTOR): Thank you. What I do think is interesting is what Chris Murphy said himself years ago, about such rogue foreign policy-type meetings. When Mike Flynn met with his counterpart, his Russian counterpart -- or had a phone call with his Russian counterpart, Chris Murphy said that was illegal possibly and definitely needed to be investigated. He supported that Logan Act use, remember the Sally Yates at the Department of Justice, James Comey, believed that the Logan Act was a reason to target Mike Flynn. So while it's true that it's rarely used, it was famously used against Trump affiliates to really gin up that entire Russia collusion hoax. But now Chris Murphy seems to have a different view when it comes to his own coordination with the Iranian foreign minister.
EMANUEL: Interesting. Richard, how would a President Sanders, Buttigieg, or a Biden react if it were Republican Senators engaging in these kind of meetings?
RICHARD FOWLER (FOX NEWS CONTRIBUTOR): Republican Senators and Democratic Senators and Democratic members of the House engage with foreign leaders all the time. I remember a couple of years ago, when there was sort of a beef going on with Bibi Netanyahu where John Boehner, the Speaker of the House, invited Bibi Netanyahu to address the House of Representatives. This happens all the time. What makes it different what Michael Flynn did versus what happened with Chris Murphy is that Michael Flynn was speaking on behalf of another administration, right, of the incoming administration. That's what made it different. That's the delineation here. But we see this all the time; they're called CODELs, right, congressional delegations to foreign nations. John McCain was famous for going on them, Lindsey Graham is famous for going on them, Nancy Pelosi is famous for going on them, where Congressional leaders go across the world and they have conversations with foreign leaders so they can do their jobs better. I see nothing wrong with this, and I think in his Medium post, the Senator is very clear, saying, I cannot conduct U.S. foreign policy, but I can definitely go and talk to individuals to get a better grasp of the situation because I'm a member of the Foreign Relations Committee and I have to legislate on these matters.
HEMINGWAY: Again, just one other thing to add about this, that Medium post had some transparency to it, but it didn't mention who else was involved in the meeting. And it is reported that former Sen. John Kerry, former Secretary of State was also participating in these meetings. He, of course, would not have that Senate cover that we're talking about here. And again, Chris Murphy did not appreciate it when Republicans wrote an open letter to Iranian leaders at the time that President Obama was trying to negotiate his --
FOWLER: Mollie, but not appreciating it and it being illegal are two different things.
HEMINGWAY: You know what? Your beef is with Chris Murphy here, who seems to have a different view of these things depending on whether he's doing it or whether his political opponents are doing it.
On Fox News @ Night last night, Richard Fowler busted up Mollie Hemingway's garbage argument falsely accusing Sen. Chris Murphy of violating the Logan Act.
From the 02.18.2020 edition of FNC’s Fox News @ Night:
Fox “news side” anchor Shannon Bream bragged about the network's news division. A week long review of her show Fox News @ Night revealed the same pro-Trump lies that you'd expect from any of Fox's opinion shows.
After Shep Smith recently resigned from the network (reportedly due to its pro-Trump bend), Bream publicly claimed that the network’s “straight news” side — as distinct from its opinion commentary — is still thriving. “If anything, I’d say our news division is growing, and I’d welcome people to check us out for themselves and make their own decisions,” she told Forbes last week. “I’ll give you an experiment: watch us for an hour, pick one of the news shows: 6, 7, 11,” Bream said. “There are any number of products you can choose. Watch it for a week and get back to me. I would love to hear what you have to say.”
Bream posted a “1 week challenge”:
I invite you to take the 1 week challenge. Watch one of our news programs and decide for yourself if all sides are represented. ------>
Fox News Anchor Shannon Bream: Journalism ‘Alive And Well’ At Fox via @forbes https://t.co/uaA8dP8cvK
— Shannon Bream (@ShannonBream) October 22, 2019
We decided to take Bream up on this challenge: This writer watched her show for all of last week. Every episode featured a mix of the usual Republican talking points from guests, such as complaints about the alleged unfairness of the House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry processes, alongside pro-Trump obfuscations, and outright falsehoods presented without pushback — making the show indistinguishable from any of Fox News’ purported “opinion” shows.
Fox News @ Night, helmed by Shannon Bream, is the same old crapola like the “opinion” side programs of Fox “News” are: right-wing propaganda and not “straight news.”
