Saddened by the Milage Plus Program
So I went from being able to earn about 6000 miles per trip to China to now earning 2000 (not even the 5xfare like United suggests on their website) per trip because of the new rule changes, which I was not informed about at all.
I used to really like flying United and I felt really rewarded when I did so. Now I just feel like United rewards those who spend money (moreso than they already did, with double miles to those in business and first class). I get that United is trying to save money, but holy crap I feel incredibly overlooked and lied to, especially when I had a ticket that informed me I’d earn 6000 award miles with that flight, and now- whoops! Policy has changed, tough luck.
I’d much rather have miles based on the actual miles I travel, so I’m going to look into those programs.
For someone who travels as much as I do (4 international trips each year from the Americas), and knowing that I have to front that cost, I keep hoping I will actually be rewarded by the program I’ve been loyal to. These milage earnings are now less than rewarding. I haven’t even used my miles before, either, I’ve been saving them for an international flight that always seems out of reach (the miles requirements get higher while I keep paying more). So I’m disappointed. Well, luckily, there are other programs to join, and I’ll look into better ones. Just wanted to share and vent my frustration and disbelief at the situation.
