Set|Ready - Thankful Thursday: Month of the Military Child When we think of the sacrifice of those who serve or have served, we tell them "Thank you for your service." On this Thankful Thursday, we want serve gratitude to military children. What we may not always consider in our thank yous are the ones the service member is concerned for the most; their children and families. Military service is a duty that requires rapid response and uncertainty which can be demanding for military children. This comes from PCSing (permanent change of station), readiness exercises, field training, and deployments. The strength and understanding of military children forms a resiliency and adaptive mindset. This allows for coping with the time apart from their parent(s), who go from being physically present in their daily lives to a distant phone call or Skype session away. Military children also incur social changes often when moving to a new location as part of their parents' PCS. They leave behind friendships and a sense of belonging that requires them to reestablish foundations of trust with new friends. This can occur as often as every few years causing academic challenges as well since moving across the country or globe could be a vastly different curriculum at their new school. May we all take time to add "and your children as well" to our thank yous that we say to each Service Member and Veteran. Did you know: The color purple is used to represent military children since it is the result of all branches of services' colors being combined? #milchild #militarychild #militarychildren #monthofthemilitarychild #thankyou #thankfulthursday https://www.setready.org/2019/04/11/thankful-thursday-month-of-the-military-child/ (at United States) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwJJvXSniEi/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=14j0v8xojzic5
