Hi! So I saw some time back your answer on the ask of a person who wanted to leaen Welsh to read mabinogi
On which you in the end answered that its originally written not in the modern language
I'd ofc gladly learn old languages in my time but im afraid im one too busy with my hobbies for now so I'm postponing that one indefenitely
But! Thats not really a question right? The thing I wanted to ask is - do you have a recommended english translation of it? Certain publisher or well.. Whatever you may have really if you have such recommendation! Cause translations and publishers are always such a fascinating thing when it comes to.. Well anything truly! Of course even a bad translation has its place and every interpretation is good at its own thing but.. Would be great to have something in mind from someone maybe more knowledgable on this specific piece xx)
Hello! My number one recommendation is Sioned Davies' translation of The Mabinogion, which is the current Penguin edition!
Davies is one of the foremost scholars of the Mabinogion and Medieval Welsh literature, she's a Welsh academic who has, in my opinion, the best understanding of the text that we currently have available to us.
The book isn't too expensive at all so I'd strongly recommend getting your hands on it!
