Remedies For Teething - Part 4
Milky Teeth
Teething is the process by which an infant’s teeth sequentially appear by break through the gums. The infant milky teeth tend to emerge in pairs, as follows:
1) lower central incisors (6-12 months of life)
2) upper central incisors (6-12 month)
3) upper lateral incisors (9-16 months)
4) lower lateral incisors (9-16 months)
5) first molars (13-19)
6) canines (16-23)
7) second molars (22-24)
There are 20 primary (milky) teeth. It is 12 short of the full set of 32 permanent teeth that an adult has.
The exact patterns in initial starting times of teething appear to be hereditary.
The primary teeth usually last till the age of 6, after which the ones that come out early follow off, giving way to the second set of permanent teeth.
Teething starts usually between the fourth and sixth month, but it may start much earlier (second or third month) or later (twelve months or so).
In the process of teething, special chemicals are released within the body that cause some cells in the gums to die and separate, allowing the teeth to come through. (The teeth do not cut through the flesh.)
For one baby, appearance of one tooth or all milky teeth can be pain free and may happen overnight, but for another baby it may be very painful and long lasting. Babies who have been content and happy can change and become irritable, fussy, cry all the time, rejecting food and drink. In this stage of development, you are the first to give your baby help and support.
