I’m “debating whether or not to sleep in the goat shed” level of nervous about Ava being about to kid. Idk. She’s a first freshener, so even tho she’s for sure in early labor, it could be anywhere from 6-12 hours till she’s pushing. She isn’t hollowed out yet, she isnt goopy. I’m going to sleep for a few hours and then wake up at midnight and go check on her. I shoulda got a baby monitor. I thought about it and I decided that was too extra and now I have Regret.

#oh gosh just need to sleep I’m not gonna get much tonight#farming#goats#animals#best case scenario I go up there and there’s dry fed kids on the ground#idk man! you just don’t know with first time moms#it might all go well and then she just doesn’t clean them#or cleans them but won’t feed them#million things#worst case is I go up and find cold dead kids#farming tip : they’re not dead till they’re warm and dead#I literally breathed life into a chick once by breathing on it to warm it up#thought it was dead and I rubbed it and hot breathed on it till it warmed up and perked up#didn’t have time to go get like a blow dryer#with goat kids if I find them cold and still I’ll take em down to the house and blow dry them and rub them to try and get them back#or until they are warm and... still dead#then you can give up and be sad#Mother Nature is harsh and as loving as she is unforgiving#hopefully it’ll all be good but I gotta be mentally ready for the worst
