I recently met someone who deeply unnerved me on a spiritual level. I tend to have a good sense for bad people, yet still I have never met someone who has set off so many alarm bells for me. On top of striking me as a somewhat deceitful and manipulative person (not what she seems). This woman also is somewhat spiritual herself and claimed to notice some personal things about me which I had not told her. This has scared me in particular, since this person is not someone who I feel safe around and I’d rather not have someone like that knowing such things about me. My gut reaction was to ask my friend who is well versed in magic practices for help, however she is living multiple hours away from me right now and has her own life to deal with. I saw your post about the importance of protection magic for beginners and I thought you’d be a good place to start.
I would really appreciate any tips on how to protect myself. I am currently living in a dorm so I cant use candles however I am an art student and I am not half bad at drawing symbols such as Celtic knots. I also drink a lot of tea and have access to a number of herbs and spices if that should be helpful.
I’d also like to note that I am (relatively) new to tumblr. I only ever read it on Pinterest for years, and the time I do spend on here is far and few between. So, if any of my etiquette is wrong I apologize. I realize this sounds like an email, but I don’t really know how to talk to strangers on the internet.
You're doing just fine with your "tumblr etiquette" haha, just be nice to people online that's all, and I have an ask box open for precisely any length of question, I'm happy to give my shot at helping! Now...
Protection magic is magic meant to repel, prevent, and ward off danger, to turn away harmful influences, misfortune, and averting disasters from various sources like energies, spirits, people, etc.
I will say, candles can be a bit... overrepresented in the craft, because they're very pretty to look at in pictures on tumblr and pinterest! But I think for your situations you'd want something wearable, something to carry with you, or very simply something to do on the go.
Talismans, charms, phylacteries, and amulets are often used to avert evil (a famous amulet that may come to mind is the Nazar, the evil eye). So I would recommend looking at any sort of jewellery or accessories that you often wear and consecrate it for protective means (obviously cleanse it first, consecrate, imbue energy into it). A necklace is traditional, as the neck is seen as a vulnerable place. But you may also use bracelets, anklets, and rings if you desire.
Think it should be noted that amulets are not always fine jewellery, but may also be bags of herbs, iron objects, hag stones on a string, written words or sigils, or symbols like the phallic or the Nazar. Jewellery is just more discreet than a bag of herbs tied around your neck.
You may also use your clothing, you mentioned that you're handy at art, so I would also recommended crafting protective sigils that you can embroider, draw, or attach onto clothing like jackets, the hems of your shirts, or even draw them a the soles of your shoes. They're meant to "take the hit for you" and deflect it.
Aromatics and scents can also be used, a perfume, body mist, or oil you consecrate for protective purposes and wear. When the smell stops you know when to apply your protective smell again!
Baths and showers, the act of using water and oils. You could shower or bath with protective herbs or things like iron (attaching a teabag-like vessel with your chosen shower safe herbs for the water to hit and then shower you in it), can also keep it simple and dip a washcloth in the infused mixture and wipe yourself in the protective water, or anoint yourself with a protective oil. You mentioned you drink a lot of tea, so instead of a bath or shower or washcloth, you can also drink bodily safe herbs for their protective qualities, stirring with intention, murmuring incantations over your cup.
Let's say you have NOTHING to use, no herbs, accessories, waters, whatever. You can still protect yourself. You can merely create a phylactery on the go by braiding a small section of your hair to absorb the unwanted energies of the day, and then undo it by evening. I would recommend speaking or murmuring incantations of protective measures while branding it, imbuing it with protective energies.
Now let's say that you actually have no hair, you can still use incantations, words, gestures, and postures to protect yourself! Words you can recites with numerology out loud or in your head (I recommend numbers like 7 and 9 for their fairy-tale qualities (7 for luck, 9 for an almost completion and fullness, or 5 for the 5 fingers of your hand and for the way five is often seen a symbol of challenging, therefor challenging the unwanted energies).
Gestures may include the la corna or fig sign, hand gestures meant to ward off evil. Use this hand gestures when talking to that person or being near them, especially the fig sign being it's more discreet.
Perhaps a little outside of spellwork, but having good posture or a confident way of presenting yourself will seem intimidating and can deflect a bit of unwanted energies. The way you carry yourself is very important in spellwork, you must not believe but know your protective spells works. Being scared, worried, or afraid of someone knowing more about you, opens ways for them to feed of your energies, you're essentially vulnerable. Even if you feel worried, you must carry yourself with confidence, seem immovable, your energy is precious and strong, and it's not something you just give out for people to take.
I recommend working with other spells as well such as warding and banishing spells to minimize your encounters with that person. As well as confidence and glamour spells for yourself to heighten your confidence in your spells and yourself.
I hope my rambling helped you find some ideas of protecting yourself. Remember to do a quick cleanse first, then cast! :)
