Fandom Shipping Polls 2025 - Mimi Tachikawa Shipping Analysis (Poll I + Poll II)
As pointed out in the main post, every single Chosen Child will get their individual analysis post to check on the status of the current popularity of their ships. We’re gonna take a look at Mimi here - if you are interested in the results of 2023, feel free to check out the previous analysis.
With that out of the way, let’s get started!
The overall results / spreadsheet
Disclaimer: As the “Someone from Poll 1″ and “Someone from Poll 2″ option have been excluded from the final analysis due to redundancy reasons and all results were culminated in another “final count”, the results will not be 1:1 to what the polls look like:
Overall votes: 120 (approx. 79 after excluding votes for “Someone from Poll 1” and “Someone from Poll 2” from the complementary poll). The main poll received 71 votes, and the secondary poll received 49 votes.
The comments/tags, besides Miyako, mentioned a partner "outside of the Adventure group" once.
Ship Analysis
1st Place: Unlike 2023, when the race between Koushiro and Jou had been clutch until the very last day, Koushiro (26%) came in as clear winner this time, leading the poll for the majority of the time ahead of Jou. Koushiro/Mimi - as mentioned in his own analysis post - can be considered to be one of the most popular Digimon Adventure ships world-wide. This is due to their set-up in the series as being odd-balls of the same age while simultaneously bouncing off of each other very well as one of the go-to “opposites attract” dynamics. Additionally, Tri canonically made Koushiro crush on Mimi, solidifying a consistent fanon-headcanon (which usually goes the other way round, with her having a crush on him instead). While the portrayal of the crush was not appreciated everywhere equally, they have always been going strong for valid reasons.
2nd Place: Jou (15%), despite usually being the most consistent challenger to Koushiro for the race to first place, didn't stand a chance to come even close to the top this time. He still had sat comfortably in second place the entire time at least. Within the tumblr fandom specifically - and especially throughout the last years -, the ship has gained more attention, way more than it has in ANY other internet spheres. Considering how their bond is displayed in the anime, framing their arcs to intertwine at several points in the timeline around the theme of “selfish choices vs own choices”, making them discover their roles as supporting characters while also supporting each other just splendidly, with tiny hints of (mutual) affection sprinkled in... It makes sense that they are viewed as viable romantic options for each other as well - even if they're not nearly as popular as Koushiro/Mimi, especially in Japanese-centric spheres (potentially due to their age difference).
3rd Place: For the first time in 2025 - and just like in 2023 -, we have an undeniable tie, as both Sora and Meiko received the exact same number of votes (9 = 11%) to reach third place. While Sora had comfortably remained as sole heir of the third spot for a long time, Meiko had slowly but steadily caught up to her. Sora’s lead is easy to explain, as both girls have been supporting each other and growing together throughout the series, displaying a gentle and loving bond despite their obvious differences in character and design. With Mimi being quite enchanted by Meiko in Tri, encouraging and fawning over her with lots of physical contact, she is an understandable pick as well.
Niche Ships (“Honorary mentions”): Here we have quite a number of interesting characters, such as Miyako (10%), Taichi (6%), the Ace/No ship option (6%), Michael (5%), Yamato (4%) and Takeru (3%). While Miyako and Michael are usually shipped with Mimi due to their foundations in the anime - with Miyako being clearly dazzled by her and Michael and her bonding during her time in America -, Taichi and Yamato are among the male fanon favourites in singular fandom spaces (often in the LATAM community). The interesting part is the Ace option - indicating that there may have formed a more popular headcanon of her not having romantic interests in anyone at all. As unusual option among the honorary mentions, Takeru can also be mentioned.
Rarepair Hell (“The 1 vote squad”): No option received just a single vote in her poll.
No audience (“0 votes go to…”): The list was pretty large this time, consisting of: Hikari, Daisuke, Ken, Iori, Wallace, as well as the options for "OC" and "Others".
What did the other polls say?
Mimi did not win a single poll, but came in second in both Koushiro’s (28%) and Jou's (18%) and also finished third in Sora’s (17%) and Miyako's (16%), thus mirroring her results to a degree. For comparison's sake: She had won Jou's (as well as Meiko's) poll in 2023.
She was more of a rare or niche choice for the majority of the remaining polls, namely Yamato and Takeru (2% each) as well as Taichi, Hikari and Daisuke (1% each). For comparison's sake: She had scored 5% in Taichi's and 4% Yamato's poll in 2023, thus definitely counting more as an honorable mention there.
In the polls for Ken and Iori, she received 0 votes - which was mutual.
Notable additions / comments / thoughts
While Mimi had been the character with the 5th most votes in 2023 (127), her overall popularity - and the variability in shipping choices - has dwindled just a little in 2025 (120) in comparison to overall slightly bigger sample size. She had received the most votes of all female characters back then, but was surpassed by Hikari this time (130).
Koushiro and Jou were never threatened to be surpassed as first and second place - and considering how Koushiro had always been in the lead this time, this result is perfectly in line with the 2025 poll's tendency to prefer "more visible and/or canonically hinted at" ships, without mingling the Adventure and 02 groups too much. However, despite all that, the competition for the other, less popular choices was still interesting to witness: First of all, there is a more or less clear indication towards the wlw ships, namely Mimi/Sora, Mimi/Miyako and Mimi/Meiko, who all received more than 10% of the votes, thus giving the lesbian!Mimi headcanons valid representation. Which is absolutely backed up by her canon portrayal, as she is having some of her most emotional character development moments during interactions with other female characters - while also displaying quite a tendency to be affectionate and physical with them. In the same vein, I want to highlight the asexual!Mimi headcanon - which, notably, got just as many votes as Taichi/Mimi (who had finished third in her polls with Sora in 2023) after all! Mimi's polls had already shown quite some diversity in 2023, so it's nice to see it still present here. There is the (in my opinion very important) notion that she’s a highly popular choice not only for male, but also for female characters. With some characters, she may not share as many interactions in comparison, but due to her personality structure, openness, kindness and sincerity, it is absolutely understandable that the fandom enjoys the potential her relationships offer - or even sees her as someone who can display all these traits without being strictly romantic about it.
The comments and the tags have singled out both "Miyako" and the idea of shipping her with "somebody outside of the Adventure group" - both can be considered as niche, but definitely valid choices.
