Ahhhhhhhhhh look what arrived!!! Thanks, interludepress!!!
Hale’s characters are complex and compelling. Both men are very young, but each has been uniquely damaged. The road towards a real relationship is as terrifying as the road towards the rest of their lives after college. I like the fact that neither man is entirely good, or entirely selfless. I love the years of shared history that Hale has wrapped around the men like a fading quilt they are carefully unpicking and re-stitching together.

MIMSYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!
So today, although the skies are grey and the rain is cold, the slightly warmer weather is finally beginning to wear down the mountains of snow that have become our unwanted fortress against the oncoming spring. Inside, the fires are roaring, the lamb roast is ready to go into the oven to fill the house with the heady scents of meat and garlic and rosemary and lemon, and I am in Delaware with Jake and Aiden on their epic road trip and I am just as in love with them now as I was in their first iteration. Possibly more. No, definitely more.
I have just received notice that my physical copy of 100 Days has shipped, so the race is on. I was fortunate enough to be given the chance to read an ARC of this beauty and rave about my love for Mimsy and the IP book I most want to see turned into a movie, and I finally have a chance to bury myself in an avalanche of imagery and feels. So... Onward to Maryland!!!
On the Magic of Titles
On Transcending Time and Being Overwhelmed by Love
I've always been a night owl. Ask my best friend, Danii (to whom I've chosen to dedicate 100 Days, considering all she put up with during the writing of it) and she'd tell you that I'm not unlike Jake Valentine. "You open your eyes in the morning and all I see is fire, pitchforks and death," as Aiden Calloway puts it.
But for me, the night is inescapable; I'm most myself in the darkened hours, when it feels like I'm the only person in the world that's awake. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Being on the road isn't unlike that. You can be heading down the highway surrounded by other vehicles, and still it feels as if you're the only person for miles around that is heading toward your next destination. It doesn't matter how long you've been driving, how long you've been away from home, how much time has passed since you last hugged your loved ones--it all bleeds into the asphalt until nothing is left apart from a sense of freedom as you watch the landscape slip by. It greets you warmly, and forgets you as soon as you've passed.
100 Days - the novel
So I finished reading an ARC copy of Mimsys' 100 Days about a week ago now, but I had to refrain from reviewing it right away for fear of it being (in the best possible way) a gibberish mess of words and expletives. I was that blown away by it. But now I think I'm ready. First and foremost, I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to you, Mimsy, for both creating, and allowing me to read this, your labour of love. It was an absolute privilege to do so. I only hope I do this book justice with what I'm about to say. Incredible, is the first word that comes to mind when describing 100 Days. Literally, when I got to the end, I said, (out loud at that) "HOLY COW, this IS incredible". Then I took a moment to digest everything I'd just read. I felt like I had to. Because of just how damn well written and crafted it was. I couldn't stop thinking about it for days after either. The journey that Aiden Calloway and Jake Valentine embark and take readers on, isn't just one of miles, states and sights, but one of discovery - both within themselves, as individuals, as best friends, and potentially more. Mimsy writes in such detail and depth, I just got them. Inside their heads. Inside their hearts. Or maybe they got inside mine. Every thought, every hope, every dream; Their vulnerabilities and fears - laying themselves bare - every emotion you can possibly imagine was conveyed through Aiden and Jakes eyes on this road trip, in this book, and as a reader, I wholeheartedly, ultimately, continually felt that. Simply put, from the opening scene, to the closing credits, I loved, was deeply engaged in, and moved by 100 Days. It literally had everything I could have ever hoped for to be included, and so, so much more. And I really hope (hint, hint) there's more to come of them, Mims. I cannot recommend it highly enough to other readers. And I'm excited to get my own copy, for sure!
Congratulations, Mimsy. *hugs from my corner of the world*
