Mina says hello.
Mina was the recipient of a warm bath the other night, doesn't she look pretty? Was it worth all the screams? Because there was a lot of screaming. While she does groom herself and I do comb and brush her, she's still a little old lady and her coat gets a little greasy and cowlicky. So the occasional bath is necessary but nobody enjoys it (Trilby, noise-sensitive as she is, gets so pissed off by all the screaming that she is liable to attack Mina after a bath), and in fact her screams are so piteous and so ear-piercing that I really struggle with deciding whether or not a clean and fluffy coat is worth it. It's an upsetting experience all around. Probably next time I'll just take her to the nice cat groomer and let them deal with it.
GASP! A murder!
Mina, bless her, is seventeen now. She's been a little hesitant about jumping up on and down from my bed for a while--she's never been much of a jumper at all, but she loves a big cushy bed so she'll make exceptions. Still, it looked like it might be getting a little difficult for her. So I bought a set of pet steps and set them up next to my bed. I might as well have moved house, she's so offended. She won't get near the steps unless I put her on them. And then you can tell she doesn't like it. She will go around the steps to drag herself up on the bed after she hurls herself at it and sticks halfway up. She will jump down from the bed even though I can see her hesitating for ages before she finally does it. I can bribe her up and down the steps with treats, and if I put her food bowl on them she will stand there and eat, grudgingly. But god, she hates the steps. It doesn't help that Trilby thinks they're GREAT. What a fun new toy for her to run up and down and jump on! Yay! But anything The Creamsicle Moron likes is obviously suspect as far as Mina is concerned, no thank you, that is SATAN'S staircase. Fuzzy ingrate.
I am in the process of getting both cats rabies-vaccinated and microchipped, so I bought them fancy sparkly collars to hold their new tags. The collars even have nice, cheery jingle bells on them. Mina is not thrilled with her sparkly silver collar, but she's coping. She's worn collars before, she's a champ. I should have got Trilby a sparkly black collar instead of her blue one because she's become the feline equivalent of a teenager who slumps around the house listening to The Smiths and complaining about the bleakness of life.
Oh @aubreyli you snarkbucket. If you remembered that Instagram existed you'd see loads of photos of my cats. 😂 Still, I took this one of Mina just for you, and she was somewhat put out about it as me wielding the camera means I'm not feeding her face. (sorry, Trilby isn't feeling camera-friendly tonight)
Living with mental and chronic illnesses is difficult. Having comparative little control over it means that there are days (weeks, months) where your best efforts (medication, therapy, exercise) isn't enough.
