Fred's Angels AU: Fred totally can switch Callaghan's control of Tadashi to a very small robot, once he gets wind of why Tadashi's attacking them. Hiro's also has the ability to magically sense if someone's will was suppressed or not. So he immediately knows Tadashi's being controlled but he can't know who is controlling his big brother. Once they knew, with the harmless robot that Aunt Cass conjured, they were able to switch the Callaghan's control over Tadashi to the robot. 1/2

Which would prove disastrous to the team since Callaghan upgraded to harmless robot to a deadly one. 2/2 Callaghan has A LOT of nyald stones that are all working together, although some have fused into more powerful ones. The models thing does work, although Hiro is slightly terrified by HOW MUCH damage the models got during the Krei Tech fight (Callaghan has recruited SO MANY people with his stones/microbots mix). Also eventually Hiro had to turn the group's hair back to normal on his own because Fred really liked it.Fred has been known to cause some REALLY WEIRD shenanigans by humming, because a song had a metaphor for something really hard to put into words (like, say, the song Embers) and he hummed it, and used that for rule-of-symbolism. Like making people fireproof by making the fire a metaphor for a good thing. (It works, but there's a big hurry to cancel the spell before the firefighters finish putting it out, because oh no they made the fire a metaphor for life and good moods. )

Oh man, so basically magical chaos happens in this universe whenever Fred is involved. Maybe they end up taking the emerald away from him because otherwise every time he so much as sings in the shower something magical happens.

Although he’d definitely still need it when they take on Callaghan. A death robot AND magic stones? Yeeek. Y’all got your work cut out for you, that’s for sure

Fred's Angels AU: Fred's skill in magic is partially because he realises that symbolism can be used in magic very, very well. Like, by making something represent something else, he can use the first thing to affect the second thing without using much magic. He makes models of the team in their armour and has it so that severe injuries go to the models instead of the actual team. (Also Callaghan mind-controls Tadashi. Then Hiro and Fred do their things. )

Ooooh, maybe that’s why Fred ends up with the amulet (🎶 it’s probably an emerald 🎶), because he can do a lot of things with very little power, so giving him a lot of power means he can just cut loose and go nuts with the magic. Sometimes it works out (ie the models getting hurt instead of them thing), other times it doesn’t (he accidentally changes everyone’s hair colours to match their armour, and then they can’t convince him to change it back. Hiro is less than amused)

Maybe during the explosion, a bunch of Hiro’s quartz nyald stones fused together to make something more powerful, and that’s what Callaghan is using to control Tadashi. Because he probably needs something with a bit of kick if he wants to suppress Tadashi’s helper instincts. (Not that it’ll do him much good once Hiro catches wind of what’s happened)
