Hi all! I hope everyone’s year started out pleasantly.
Lucky Break! has been on a bit of a pause as many of the team are now adjusting to getting back to school after their winter break. The main person in charge of managing building and lore development is currently going through what they call “hell week,” so best of luck to them!
I have been doing a few things here and there to keep the ball rolling. Some new updates with the server are as follows:
The class system will be fully rehauled. Instead of a class tree, a different system will be put in place to facilitate the future creation of more unique classes. The classes will not be upgradeable, but players will be able to switch between them provided that they have the points (TBD if another currency, or an existing currency) to do so!
Amazing animated models will be added to the custom mobs. The plugin Model Engine will be utilized to convert Bedrock Edition models to models compatible with Java Edition, allowing for smooth animations and accurate hitboxes! This feature will require more testing before it is deemed safe for public release, as the mechanics behind it may generate lag.
A ton of new hats have been added to the cosmetic roster. And I mean a TON... One of the people behind Lucky Break! went wild with making hats and now we have a whole bunch. Just thought it would be nice to let you guys know.
If you have any questions about the server, don’t be afraid to reach out! The current release date is unknown since the aforementioned management person wants everything to be done before release, but I’ll be sure to keep you all updated.
Development Log #2
Some of my friends have come along to help warm up the server and build a nice spawn. I’ve finished all of the weapon models and the rose gold weapon skins. Also, I’ve added several cosmetics to the server. NPCs are starting to populate the builds in progress. Beta might be out in the next week, we’ll see.
Development Log #4
Hi guys!! Everyone’s doing a wonderful job with building, but I’m having a little slump with the scripting. I think I am going to rehaul the class/spellcasting/weapons and their mechanics. That’ll be fun.
Here’s some screens of some builds!!
Lucky Break!
Lucky Break! is a 1.16.4 LGBT-friendly SMP Minecraft server coming in the near future! This server can be compared to an RPG, with features such as:
Classes — Play as upgradeable classes such as “assist” and “hunter”!
Spells — Cast spells based on your class and weapon!
Attributes — With a stat pool inspired by classic RPGs, you can upgrade your abilities and grow stronger with every level!
Custom weapons — The first release will feature OVER 60 weapons built from the bottom up; this means custom 3D models and custom stat values!
Custom armor and accessories — Not only that, but you’ll be able to equip it all into a special inventory with slots for rings, artifacts, and more!
Custom mobs — Some custom modeled, some augmented vanilla, all pose a new challenge for weathered players!
Custom NPCs — Talk with a wide variety of NPCs offering important dialogue, unique shops, and bountiful quests!
In addition, Lucky Break will be including some features that exist outside the realm of RPG. These include:
A gacha system for collecting rare weapons and armors — A non-P2W gacha with a programmed pity system. Players can exchange “gol” for pulls!
A specialty shop — Players can exchange “clovers,” a second, rarer currency, for server-wide EXP boosts and cool cosmetic items, permissions and commands!
And there are more things to come for the first release, and in future updates! I hope you’re as excited about this passion project as I am! Any and all feedback and suggestions are welcome, even in the current early development phase!
A post about closed beta testing will release in the coming weeks. The first public release of Lucky Break! is set to come out on the 20th of December. (This is a soft release date, as there is only one dev and they are a very stressed out university student.)
I hope to see you on the server when it’s ready!
Quests and Reputation
Quests are an integral part of Lucky Break!’s gameplay. Quests can be obtained by speaking to NPCs. In the beta and Release 1.0, there will be three different types of quests:
- “Gather”/“get” quests: Bring a fixed amount of a certain item to an NPC
- “Defeat” quests: Kill a fixed amount of a certain mob
- “Deliver” quests: Bring a specific item from one NPC to another
Some quests award gol, some award items, but all quests when completed will give the player one reputation point, or “rep.” The more rep a player gathers, the better discounts they will receive at shops, and the more opportunities they will have at their disposal. Reputation benefits is set for a future update, but some foundations may be completed by Release 1.0
Weapons
Four types weapons will be introduced in the first release (and in the beta) for Lucky Break!.
Swords are standard weapons. They’re quick and deal good damage.
Axes are heavier than swords, dealing more damage at a slower rate.
Bows are ranged weapons with rather standard stats.
Staffs have lower stats, but can cast spells on click.
Each weapon type has around 10-15+ weapons. All of these weapons will be completed in time for the beta. More weapons and weapon types will be created for future updates.
Another fun bit with Lucky Break!’s first weapon types are elemental damage. Each weapon type in the beta / first release contains weapons that deal thunder, fire, ice, earth, water, and wind damage. Mobs and players can resist elemental damage by wearing specific armor to counter it. I’m unsure if I’ll keep this elemental damage feature in future weapon types, but we’ll see.
Long time no update!
I, the dev, have been swamped by finals (really, I should’ve seen this coming) for the past week and have not been able to work on Lucky Break!. There’s actually still a lot to be done, and I may not make the December 20th release date, but just know that I’ll be working on the server again very soon! Finals are almost over for me [:
In the meantime, if there’s anything you’d like to see on the server, feel free to reply or send an ask! I’m open to features. Lucky Break! is an RPG-themed server, so do keep that in mind.
