The Sieges Expansion is coming to MassiveCraft! Let your conquest begin!
The Sieges Expansion is projected to be released and available to play on MassiveCraft on June 3rd 2022.
Gather your banners, kingdom members, and any other forces you can gather, and prepare yourself for the most highly anticipated release in MassiveCraft history. Building off the success of the previous Kingdoms Expansion and the swift emergence of several fledgling Kingdoms, the Sieges Expansion enables kingdoms with military might and economic backing to project their power and directly lay siege to an enemy faction claim.
What does the Sieges Expansion add?
The Sieges Expansion enables entire Kingdoms to enemy a faction and stake a sizeable war chest to start a three day siege in a special siege zone on the defending faction's territory border. Over the three days of a siege, take part in regular clashes within the special siege zone that covers a large area of the wilderness adjacent to the defending faction and marks any active combat inside with the new ‘siege flag’. Siege points are granted to the attacking or defending sides through regular siege clashes that take place four times a day (by default, without agreed clash skip) in the siege zone area. During an active clash, kills on players under the ‘siege flag’ count towards the overall clash and siege score. Points can also be gathered by holding the clash capture area at the centre of the siege zone. The side with the highest amount of points at the end of a clash wins that specific clash. The side with the highest amount of points at the end of a siege wins the entire siege and is victorious. The outcome of a siege is not defined by the results of a single clash, but the performance of your kingdom and faction across the entire siege period.
Winning and Losing a Siege
The outcome of a siege is significant for both winning and losing sides, with attacking and defending sides being highly rewarded with spoils for being victorious in a siege. The Sieges Expansion introduces the new ‘siege lock’ mechanic that prevents factions from leaving their kingdom and players from leaving their faction while under active ‘siege lock’. If the attacking kingdom wins, the defending faction is forced and ‘siege locked’ into the attacking kingdom for a period of time. This period of time is dependent on whether the attacking kingdom chooses to plunder or conquer the defending faction. If the plunder option is selected, the defending faction has a regal amount stolen from their faction bank, in exchange for a shorter siege lock time. If the conquer option is selected, the defending faction is locked into the attacking kingdom for a longer period of time. If the plunder option is not possible due to lack of regal tribute in the faction bank, the conquer option is selected automatically. If the defending faction wins, the attacking kingdom forfeits the entire war chest used to initiate the siege, with the regal amount going directly into the faction bank of the victorious defending faction. In the event of a tie, the war chest is split between attacking and defending sides and the defending faction is not forced into the attacking kingdom. Once a siege is over, regardless of the outcome, the defending faction goes into ‘cooldown’ and cannot be sieged for a period of time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I start a siege on an enemy faction if I am not in a kingdom? Sieges can only be started by Kingdoms. A candidate siege target must be Kingdom enemies (/k enemy [faction]) and started by a player within the Kingdom who has the permissions to manage sieges. Independent factions can not start an offensive siege on another faction. How can I allow members of my kingdom to participate in a siege? Can non-kingdom allies participate in an attacking or defending siege on one of my factions? Kingdom members can be granted the participatesiege permission specifically or through their kingdom rank. By default, knights (2) and above have the participatesiege permission, though this can be easily configured through setting new kingdom permissions. Only kingdom members can be granted permission to enter the siege zone and participate in an attacking or defending siege. Third parties (without the participatesiege permission) will be heavily debuffed if they enter a siege zone, and heavily damaged if they fire a projectile that lands in the zone. As a faction leader, do I lose control of my faction if I lose a siege? No! You remain in full control and can decide who has access with faction permissions and locks. Your faction is fully secure and you remain the master of your domain. The only difference is that your faction relations may change, based on kingdom relations that apply to all members of that kingdom. Do I have to leave the kingdom that I was forced into after the siege lock period expires? The siege lock is used to enforce conquer and plunder periods in relation to losing a siege. Once this period is over, you can leave the kingdom or if you’ve come to like your new kingdom-mates, you can stay at their pleasure! What happens if I’m the last faction left in my kingdom and I lose a siege? If you lose a siege and are forced to leave your kingdom as the only faction remaining, your kingdom will be disbanded. Any money in the kingdom bank will be returned to you, but the 10000 regals used to found the kingdom will not be returned. Are there any new rules that I need to know about that relate specifically to sieges? Yes! The Game Department are planning to draft and release the new set of rules relating to sieges closer to release in a later announcement. Expect them to cover kill feeding, alt-account prohibition from sieges and other common exploits and loopholes seen on other servers that utilise a siege system. If you’ve read the siege runbook and have identified any potential exploits, please feel free to make a ticket and bring it to the attention of our staff team!
The final config values for Sieges (regarding scoring, prices, conquer, pillage etc.) will be published in a detailed announcement post closer to the release date, following final confirmation by the staff team.
