MING JIE - 明傑
明 means bright or brilliance, while 傑 means outstanding or heroic. Basically his whole name means someone who is very bright and outstanding. He is designed to be the antithesis of Tian Zhao, filial, responsible, and honest. He possesses many desirable qualities as ideal Chinese men.
When we first designed his character, we debated whether we wanted him to be the scholar type or the masculine type, and we ended up combining the two together. In a way, we wanted him to be someone whom Chi An has little reason to say “no” towards the supposed arranged marriage, which is ironic as Chi An never sees him more than a childhood friend.
To pursue Ming Jie, you need to choose responsibility over freedom.
