It's the final week of the Mini Appendix A Read-Along! To complete the journey we'll be reading the final portion of Appendix A: Durin's Folk. Dwarf-lovers pay attention, because this week is all for you!

And we're on to Week 3! Not that I'm biased or anything, but this is my absolute favorite section of Appendix A: The House of Eorl (aka the history of Rohan.) This is the only section we're reading this week, and I think you'll enjoy it quite a bit - it's much more narrative, and not as dry as the last two readings.

White tree

Ok, so this is a little bit of a lame way to fill out a bingo space, but as soon as I saw the week 2 space labeled "White Tree" the first thing I thought of was the little fake tree my mom got me for Christmas. It's a really simple little tree, but my mom said that the second she saw it, it reminded her of the White Tree from LOTR and she thought I would like it because I would understand the reference. And she was right because I love it!

Anyway, it doesn't just sit there doing nothing. All you have do is flip a switch wait for spring and it blooms golden lights flowers! :D

Btw, sorry you can't quite see the whole tree in the pics. It's really cold outside right now and I was having trouble finding a place to take pictures in the house that didn't have a bunch of messy distracting stuff in the background. :p

Okay, let's get started! This week we're reading the following four parts of Appendix A:

I. Numenorean Kings: (i) Numenor - This is basically a summary of The Silmarillion, so if you've read that this won't be too exciting. If you haven't read The Silmarillion, this little section will fill you in on the information you need to know to enjoy the rest of the Appendix.

I. Numenorean Kings: (ii) The Realms in Exile - Actually, you can totally skip this if you want. It's literally a list of all the kings and stewards of Arnor and Gondor. Considering the rest of the appendix is telling the actual stories of all these guys, skipping this part is no big deal.

I. Numenorean Kings: (iii) Eriador, Arnor and the heirs of Isildur - This is the story of Arnor, the northern kingdom. Here you'll learn all about Aragorn's ancestors and the rise and fall of their kingdom.

Skip (iv), we're reading that next week!

I. Numenorean Kings: (v) Here follows a part of the tale of Aragorn and Arwen - this is, as the title suggests, the story of Aragorn and Arwen's relationship. It's such a sweet tale, and it really adds a whole new layer to the snippets of their relationship that we see in Lord of the Rings.

Welcome to the Appendix A Mini-Read-Along!

Okay, so normally when I start a read-along the first day is a big festival of introductions and "heads up followers i'm doing this thing" posts. But since this is just a super-casual little mini-read-along, I'm thinking that won't be too necessary. (Of course, by all means make an introduction post if you'd like. But I'm thinking we shouldn't have too many, if any, new-comers for this one.)

Instead, since it's been a while since the last read-along, here's a list of reminders/things to know:

The blog is still set up for the previous Silmarillion Read-Along. At some point in the next few weeks, I'll be transitioning it into Hobbit Read-Along mode. So I'm sorry if the theme looks like a mess at some point during that process.

I am posting Bingo Cards, and I highly encourage you to use them to inspire your own fanworks during (or after) the read-along. But I won't be doing any giveaways for this one.

The week technically starts on Saturdays. So every Saturday expect an introduction post for that week's readings, as well as a playlist (for those who like the mood music.)

As soon as this read-along ends I'm jumping straight into Hobbit Read-Along promotion. So if you're at all interested in that read-along, stick around because I'll have surveys, team sign-ups, and a new trailer!

HAVE FUN. Think of this as a warm-up read-along. We're all still a little jet-lagged from the holidays, so we're going to do a nice, relaxing, read-through of the best part of the appendices to get us all back in the read-along groove.
