Here’s how we made our Birdman replicas! Very exciting job, was a lot of fun to be part of

Last year we designed and created 1500 mini Birdman sculptures for Birdman the movie. Once the prototypes had been produced they were sent to the film’s director, producers and to Michael Keaton himself: M Keaton liked it so much that he kept it!

Once the prototype was approved we began production. We sculpted the original, moulded and cast them all by hand. Each figure was then hand painted in our Kent studio. The figure stands on a plinth, a button can be pressed to make the figure speak, he says five lines from the movie with a recording of Michael Keaton’s actual voice.

Each figure features a hand painted message labelling them individually: “1 to 1500, made in London” and so on. The brief asked for the figures to have a limited edition feel and to not look factory produced. We make all of our products by hand and pride ourselves on the fact that we don’t rely on any heavy machinery to complete the work we love doing ourselves.

The final 1500 figures were handed our at the Venice Film Festival; they were greatly received and went on to stay in blogs worldwide, on the news and even in Empire magazine!
