That said, there is nothing like a pandemic to reveal the massive, glaring, inhumane defects of capitalism!
Any economic structure that has people choosing between starving to death and losing their housing in quarantine, or infecting their fellow citizens just to afford to exist is an abusive system!
good morning I had a dream last night that I learned to play the celesta!
She now has an elbow that took far too long.
allura yeeted shiro to save him while she yeeted lotor to hurt him. shallura and l0tura? nARRATIVE FOILS
I’ve made a comparison about the similar lay out of Shiro and Allura’s reactions here, but you’re totally right. Look, it’s been a long standing point that Zarkon/Haggar are the primary Shiro/Allura foils of the series, and therefore Zargar is a dark foil to Shallura, the Black Paladin and Altean alchemist who doomed the universe, versus the Black Paladin and Altean alchemist who will save it. But of course, Zarkon wasn’t just the Black Paladin, but also the Galra emperor.
And just like Shiro defeated Zarkon for the Black Lion, and he would have died if not for Haggar, Lotor defeated and finally killed Zarkon to become Emperor. And when Allura doesn’t along with Lotor, is the paladin of Voltron / the Altean alchemist who doesn’t go along with quintessence induced madness, she breaks that cycle halfway.
I mean, even the fact that after Allura ‘yeets’ both of them, the next episode both Allura and Shiro have conversations where their conversational partner affirms it wasn’t their fault, even if their conversational partner didn’t think going on the mission / trusting Lotor was a good idea:
Shiro: I know you’re worried about her. We all are. I’m sorry I let her slip away.Coran: I know it’s not your fault. It’s just… I’ve already lost so much. I can’t lose Allura, too.Shiro: We’ll find a way to get her back.
Lance: You didn’t put us in this situation. It was Shiro who went rogue and released the virus in the castle.Allura: No. This is my fault. I trusted Lotor.[…]Lance: I had more reason than anyone not to trust him, but he did everything right. He didn’t just fool you. He fooled us all. Let me tell you, as someone who’s made a million mistakes, all you can do is get up and try to make it right. You can’t doubt yourself now.
Which sounds very similar to Shiro’s initial, “Coran, I’m sorry things didn’t go as planned, but we can’t focus on what went wrong. We’ve got to figure out how to make it right,” when Coran first learns and expresses distress about Allura being captured.
And then both of the season finales end with Shiro going to save Allura (and the team, in s7) even if he can’t pilot Black the way he thought he would (losing her to Zarkon at first, and then channelling his quintessence and bond with Black through Keith) and then Allura saves him from Haggar (/death).
soulmates, i tell you

Girl on the beach update. (The brown confetti was for a Magical stitches challenge.) Was worried about how dark her shoulder looks, but in a photo I think she looks okay.
