Q & A
Tell us a little bit about the person behind Minimawall
My name is Julie, I’m 22 years old and live in Copenhagen on Amager. I’m currently studying Multimediadesign with Graphic Design as my focus. I’ve always had a huge passion for design, whether it was fashion, graphics or interior - and i’ve always known that someday i would be working in that direction! My love for typography and minimalism really peaked when i started studying at my current school (Copenhagen School of Design and Technology), where we’ve had courses in different design-programmes - and from that point on my love just got bigger and bigger!
Tell us about your posters - what inspires you?
Right now i have a collection called TYPO - TYPO are typographic posters with simple statements and reminders that can be both welcoming, motivating, thoughtful etc. The layouts of the posters are always minimalistic, that’s key! And i also do my best to stand out from the crowd. My inspiration for the posters come from a lot of different places - such as magazine layout, signs, symbols and of course the internet. I try to give a symbolic meaning to most of my posters and make them interesting - i love playing with the words and the meaning by changing sizes, making shapes and playing with fonts.
When - and how did you start Minimawall?
It’s about one month ago, me and my boyfriend sat one night at home contemplating what new posters to get for the apartment. We had a pretty clear idea of how we wanted it to look, but couldn’t really find any that fitted 100%, so I suggested that i could try and make one myself! I’ve always admired and envied danish poster-designers, such as Plakatkompagniet, En Klam Ide and Visse Vasse - they are so talented and creative, and i’ve always wished that i could do something like that one day, but didn’t really feel i had that one great idea. But that evening i decided to just go ahead and try, and I’m really happy i did! :-)
