Kimmer's minivan conversion on July 4th came together once we found two things at the Shoreline GoodWill: a table of the right material and dimensions... and a metal table top. Notmsure what that last thing really was... but it's metal and it's strong and it,.too,.happened to be the right dimensions.
Right off the bat, then, she lays that metal top across the open face cabinets she placed on their backs toward the back of either side of the van. The metal.spans.the cabinets perfectly in width and length.
So now we've got half a bed frame back there with built-in storage.
Then she sets the table down in the space remaining where it, too, is a perfect fit for that space.
Except.
It's four inches too tall.
"No problem" says Kimmer.
So she saws the table legs to the correct height...
Screws the legs back in...
And now we have a level bed frame from one end to the other with built in storage and storage space down below.
In the back are a coupla Ikea storage items from our house. Kimmer hit on them one day as the perfect approximation of the Campervan kitchen we had last month. We're missing the Dometic refrigerator drawer... but we picked up slide-out and pull-out countertop space.
Atop the bed frame, she set four inch high density foam, a layer of egg crate foam, that great, thick Pendleton blanket we picked up for free at the Escape Campervan Salt Lake City location. And finally, two layers of sleeping bags we used once upon a time.during our Rialta travels.
Somewhere amidst all of those layers...
We fit.
😊
