The Art Assignment: Scramble Scrabble Dinner

My first try at the scramble scrabble dinner assigned by J. Morgan Puett, during the day the family celebrated my father and his wife’s birthdays. We definitely went to safe with the dishes, something to work on for next time, but it was still a fun experience that made us all want to do it again.

The dishes we made was:

Baked salmon with chanterelles, miso and ginger, sprinkled with grated chocolate (Very tasty!)

Mashed potatoes with spinach and creme fraisch, also sprinkled with chocolate (tasty but not very inventive)

Mashed (we seem to like mashing things in my family...) strawberries frozen together with whipped cream, lemon and coconut (also very tasty)

I warmly recommend this assignment! It is a very fun way of making food together!

We are raised as islands. We learn to see ourselves as separated from the rest of the world, with our own unique map of rivers and mountains, regardless of the fact that mountains are created by tectonic movement involving the whole world, and that rivers are made up of water that evaporated in another island's forests. Being an island is both liberating and dangerous. Deciding to be free of the continent, to stop referring back to it for truths and answers, makes you able to think for yourself, but at the same time it enables locical fallacy to flourish without question.

Abandoned charcoal kiln from WWII close to Graninge, Sweden. The wood burned slowly for two weeks to turn into coal. Now the roof is slowly collapsing and moss paints beautiful patterns on the old bricks.

The Art Assignment: Lost Childhood Object

I asked my friend Ellinor if she’d lost an object from her childhood, this is what she said:

”A piece from my mom's old apple tree. It was a stump of an old branch that I used as a handle when I climbed up or down the tree almost every day. It was a very important part of this very important tree. One day my godfather came to prune all the trees in the garden and he, unknowing, cut the handle-stump off! I was devastated and ran out into the forest to cry. Afterwards I had the stump standing in my room, as an important and very close friend, for a long time. It's gone now, I don't know where it went. It disappeared twice, first from the tree and then from my things. It was about 10 cm tall, wider at the base, leaning to one side and had its own little stump close to the top on the leaning side.”

When I showed her the handle-stump I made for her (from a piece of an old mattress and some paint) she said: “Wow, it’s moving to see it again. It actually look like it. How very nice!”

Frankenstein’s Bransch

Skin on a tree. I started stitching. Stitch by stitch and piece by piece I started covering something once living with something now dead. A bransch lost from the tree needs another layer of protection.

When it’s finally done it’s time to remove the tree and let the empty skin remember it.
