’ She needs me. ’//Ruby/Minnie
Minnie nodded her head, so aggressively and eagerly that it irritated her neck following Jo’s attack just hours ago. As bothersome as the pain was, it was nothing compared to what Ruby was dealing with. She squeezed her best friend’s hand and continued to stroke her hair in a gentle, comforting manner. “I need her,” she confirmed, sounding almost panicked. They were as codependent as they came, and neither of them had any shame in admitting that.
Hana, one of the nurses at the PC, could only shrug. “I’m sorry, girls,” she said. And while it did sound like she meant it, that didn’t do anything to make Minnie or Ruby feel any better. Sympathy fixed nothing. “It’ll be at least eight weeks until Ruby’s cleared to compete again.”
A soft, desperate whimper left Minnie’s throat, and she stomped her foot against the floor. Turning to Ruby, her hand fell from her hair and adjusted the ice pack on her shoulder, taking her turn of holding it in place so Ruby didn’t have to. “The tournament…” she sighed. “I’ll win it for the both us, Ruby.”
Regal had come to her in the last hour and said they’d have a meeting tomorrow regarding their tournament status, and she didn’t know what he’d say, but surely he wouldn’t just take her out of it. Her and Ruby had already gotten through two qualifying matches and were about to fight a team from Raw. They were doing amazing, they had all the momentum in the world. And then Jo had to come and ruin it all. Her problems seemed to be mostly with Minnie, and she felt awful that Ruby was suffering because of her.
Even with Jo on her back, and with her partner shelved, Minnie was going to continue on. Maybe she’d heal quicker than expected and she’d be back just in time for their championship match - because Minnie wasn’t accepting that she wouldn’t get them there. She was going to do this for her and Ruby.
