let's talk about guilt, shall we?

it's a lifelong companion, though not one they actively pay mind to per say, it's one of those things that are unmistakeably there but sort of become a background noise after a while, y'know? yet it lingers and its presence is undeniable, if Ala ever took a moment to look at it properly. because while Ala is very level headed and emotionally in-tune, they do suck at dredging up the uglier things, feelings and thoughts that have become largely pushed to the back because it was never safe to truly process them, sometimes it still doesn't feel safe, war and all.

but guilt is there, if they focus on it hard enough, maybe stretching all the way back to their birth, really because like - what if they weren't born? maybe cougar and dark wouldn't have had such a falling out, or maybe they would've broken it off in a more mature way, so nobody had to die. or maybe if they weren't born so sickly and frail, dark wouldn't have left because he was disappointed with them

they often felt guilt for hiding behind their friends, when they weren't on speaking terms with cougar. they feel awful whenever they see the way she looks at them, full of so much anguish and regret it threatens to tear them apart

they want to help her, they want to fix things, but they don't think it's possible, they agonised over it for so many moons, they're unsure if it wouldn't be easiest for them to just give up.

they feel guilty about that, too.
