me realizing that perhaps "関係性オタク" describes me better than "腐女子" or even "shipper" in general do... 🤔 while still enjoying romantic dynamics in ships I do care about sometimes

new twitter because elon fcked my account of 14 years
I just wish everyone would move to a better SNS already so I don't have to keep up on everything...
I am sad melon nuked my twatter of 14 years... 😢😢😢 maybe it's time to get off that site for real
months later and I'm still shadowbanned. no response from support at all too lol
just as a proof I did want Kimura and Ohsaka together in a Tales title back in 2013 (the year Zestiria was announced, but before the announcement itself) and that I got what I wanted... I actually forgot I hoped for them both in a game and look where I am now lol
probably incoherent rant re: fanworks, proshippers, profiction takes, etc.
this is supposed to be a series of tweets but I don't want to spam my tl with like long tweets of hot takes so sorry if it doesn't read well
to preface this: I generally agree with the proship/profiction take that you are allowed to explore anything in fiction, even if it's taboo topics being treated not as taboo. I think the discretion is on the audience here instead of the creator; the creator just has to make sure it's rated/warned properly (beyond that, it's no longer their responsibility).
with that out of the way, I would also like to emphasize on the word generally, because this is actually a case-by-case situation for me, especially with regards to fanworks.
in the first place, fanworks are in grey zone, so I don't necessarily agree that you are allowed to do anything you want if it's a work derivative from someone else's. a lot of things have guidelines for derivative works too that fans have to follow, and I think those guidelines are made for the benefit of both the official license holders and the fans too.
it's part of the reason I'm kind of reluctant to consider myself pro-ship/fic/etc not because I'm against people protecting themselves from harassment over fiction but because I don't think all kinds of fiction, including fan fiction, are fair game. because I think the default pro-fic take is "you can do whatever you want with these characters you don't own in your fanfic" (please correct me if I'm wrong)
idk I don't want to sound like I care more about fictional characters than actual people but remember fanworks could exist because of the original creators too, and I know English fandom is more than okay to disregard canon (i.e. disregard the original intent/creators) but I just think we need two-way respect here instead of being... idk, self-entitled? about the things you don't even own. I know respect seems like a vague thing here and who can even measure what counts as respect or not? I can't, as a mere fan, and everyone else other than the original creators can't either. but one thing for sure is that I feel like this awareness for respect is more important than your own self-indulgence and arrogance of "nah fuck the creators I just do my own little thing here"
I mean like generally if you want to write whatever and not even the creator is stopping you then I think it's fine, with a big asterisk there, it being you have to realize that you are at the mercy of the original creators here so please mind what you post out in the wild, out of respect for everyone, not just the original creators but your fellow fans too.
I think it's why instead of proship vs anti discourses it's more about proper zoning in Asian fandoms. it's the same tagging shit but the attitude is not "fandom is wild west and if you don't like something then don't read it" but more "if you like this thing normie fans would probably find weird you need to make sure this weird thing doesn't reach them MUCH LESS the official side (MAKE SURE it only reaches people who know what/where to find the stuff you post)" like you know why you don't tag shippy stuff with the official tag (one rule that I've seen time and time again English fandom breaks)? so official people and normie fans don't find it! simple. tbh I do think this is all just cultural differences but like, I find myself more comfortable with the "don't disturb others" mindset than the high and mighty "I do whatever I want here and if you don't like it then don't read" as if you own those characters. you know.
I mean also. the original creators can any time ask the fans to stop doing what they're doing, and if I'm asked to do that I'll readily stop what I'm doing too… I'm serious here. and from my understanding I don't think profic people are like that lol so yeah not a profic not an anti............ tho yeah still closer to profic stance but I just wish there wasn't like air of self-importance to profic takes lol
