Minuk is a young, curious, and mischievous Yup'ik girl in the banks of Alaska 1890. She must endure the realization that her traditional way of life is changed forever with the arrival of Christian missionaries. Minuk was released in 2002.
Minuk from Girls of Many Lands was a lucky Facebook find. She’s in excellent condition and the price was far lower than I’ve seen on eBay.
Of all the GOML books, Minuk’s is my favorite. I’m excited to have an Alaska Native doll in my collection.
Minuk and the Sealskin (amirkanek)!
This sealskin belongs to me. It’s not in the best condition, unfortunately- it’s shedding hairs. As per my aunt, the word for a beat up skin is aminraq. As you can see, the hairs on a seal’s coat are thick and almost rubbery, with a spring to them. They vary based on where in the coat they come from.
Minuk has never seen such a big sealskin in her life, and she says she wants to live in a world where all the seals are this big! She enjoyed a nice nap and made herself a little tent.

Two things I thought when taking Minuk's (Yup'ik Alaska, 1890) picture just now.
Her outfit is making me want to melt just by looking at it.
In my expert opinion, she has the prettiest face mold out of all the Girls of Many Lands dolls.
It's a rare snowy day in Washington. I would love this if I didn't have to go out, but my booster shot is today. Even so, Minuk was happy to help me out and get outside. She's used to lots of snow. I didn't want to wander farther than my deck though, so there's not a whole lot going on in the background.
Music is my happy place.
All that's missing is a beach.
