you grew up with the harvard twins. now twenty-six, roxanne (or roxie, as close friends call her) harvard and her twin sister, lucy, were among the two most popular child actresses of their generation. by turns amusing, clever, and engaging (on-screen, of course), the girls starred in a hit sitcom series that would turn into a silver screen gemstone for its decade. and with the show's popularity came a high demand for the twins. skyrocketing them into hollywood's only-too-eager arms, roxanne and lucy found themselves at the center of a whirlpool of fame. one that roxie, in particular, was only too overjoyed to embrace. because what little girl doesn't dream of walking down the red carpet? of having her picture taken, of people asking her for her autograph? her life became a bejewelled, bedazzling spectacle. though lucy chose to step back as they matured, roxie only delved further into the capitalist goldmine that was the city of los angeles.
eschewing education to pursue her acting dream, roxanne became a bonafide silver screen lolita. at nineteen, her first "adult" job was as karen in 2004's hit comedy mean girls. the movie brought a great deal of commercial success roxanne's way, and gradually, the attention began to take its toll. not yet legal, she was often tabbed by the media, caught "celebrating" with friends. still, roxanne was -- and remains -- adamant that she was only having a good time. hollywood's entire purpose is fun, so why not let her have it?! her job is pure entertainment. therefore, people shouldn't be so serious about it.
since then, roxie's been easily branded as a hollywood "wildchild", often (too much so for her taste) compared to her much more sedate sister. still, directors and producers take her own, too loath to pass up the name of "roxanne harvard" on one of their projects. she's just wild enough to be a liability, but not outrageous enough to cause international scandal. a precarious balance, but one that roxanne has been toeing for nearly a decade. recently, she's starred with her sister as the hemlock twins on a dustland fairytale. but, it seems, roxanne's own fairytale might very well be reaching its end. a dustland fairytale is well and all -- but she's only a guest star. and -- well. no new projects seem to be offered up to her.
maybe, just maybe, it's time for roxie to get her head out of her self-involved clouds and step on down to earth.
