Every now and then, I get to re-catalogue an updated edition of course books used at Hogwarts.

It’s been nearly fifteen years and the Standard Book of Spells is still trash.

I know that because it still contains this:

The vast majority of curses are just Charms.

Charms.

And I guarantee I could ruin someone’s day with creative application of charms taught as utility or otherwise harmless just as easily as I could with something classified as a curse.

I love that she goes on to say, after that nasty bit of hyperbole that you should only use them under what amounts to adult supervision which, at least, is accurate but if you’re going to start out the chapter with a blanket, “CURSES BAD!” statement why bother after that point?

Never mind that the majority of what’s listed are jinxes and hexes (both of which are also typically just Charms) anyway.

I’m sure Miranda Goshawk is a perfectly friendly Witch but she can also fuck all the way off with that nonsense.
