→The Passing

Shannon was walking home from the train station one day when she decided she wanted a bottle of water to help her headache. She was in the back of the convienance store when a robber broke into the store and held a gun to the Cashier’s head. Shannon dropped the bottle of water in shock, and she tried to convince the robber to turn around and walk away. He shot her in the chest for her trouble. She died of blood loss.

→What’s there left to do?

Before her death, Shannon wanted to learn to speak ten different languages, learn to play the guitar and fall in love. But now, all she wants is to see her killer brought to justice.

→Writing Sample

Her head was pounding so badly that she was having trouble walking. Her legs felt like jell-o, and every time she closed her eyes she got a stabbing pain behind her eyes. She hadn’t had anything to drink in almost six hours. Working all day at a Dance studio had its perks, and quite obviously its setbacks.

The Mac store loomed in her frontsight, and Shannon nearly skipped all the way to the store. Fishing around in her pocket, she almost smiled at her good fortune when she found a toonie in her pocket. She happily gave the cashier a small wave as she made her way to the back of the store. She was re-adjusting her headphones when she heard the chime go off again. Had it been any other day, she wouldn’t have paid much attention to it. But something in the back of her mind was nagging at her, and she felt the hairs on the back of her neck begin to rise.

Slowly, so slowly, she spun around on her heel. She had always thought her death was going to be like it was in the movies. Slow motion, everything went silent as they played epic music. But when the robber pulled out his gun from his back, there was no music. She felt her hands go cold as the bottle tumbled out of her hand and hit the ground.

“Please… please don’t…” She begged, holding her hands up in the air in hopes that he would register her as a non-threatening teenage girl. “Please… just go. We’ll forget all about this…” She urged, flicking her gaze towards the attendant. His mouth was open in an O shape, his head slowly shaking from side to side.

“Please…”

A shot went off and then nothing but silence…. Basked and covered in red.
