ARTS FOR MY GAME!!!@$$@#@$@$@$
I’m Mirette Henin, I’m 20. I am currently a student at Middle Tennessee State University--this is my third year, making me a junior.
I’m majoring in Multimedia Journalism with a minor in Africana Studies.
As an immigrant from Egypt, I find it extremely important to give women--especially those of color--a voice. I am extremely proud to be an intersectional feminist--being aware of issues with all genders.
I am outgoing, I love meeting and making new friends, and getting out of my comfort zone.
I plan on being in the Entertainment field--doesn’t matter if it’s radio or tv, I just know I love to make people laugh and I am super passionate about pop culture.
You can find me on Instagram (@lilegy)
How would you describe your love life/relationship status?
> A mess! Well--kind of. I would say I’m definitely a serial dater--going in and out of relationships. It’s not something that I’m proud of, and it’s definitely why I’m going to be single for a while.
With that being said, I have a pretty cool guy in my life right now--I don’t know what the future holds, but if anything were to happen, it wouldn’t happen anytime soon.
Do you feel pressured by society, family/friends to be in a relationship or be actively dating?
> Somewhat to a certain extent. Egyptians don’t believe in dating due to taboos about premarital sex--which is a double standard towards women and girls, because men don’t face the same standards with seeing people, dating, etc. With that being said, a lot of my peers in the community are getting engaged and married--which I don’t get the rush, we’re so young!
Even if there is pressure, I don’t necessarily feel it just because I have a lot of goals to achieve before getting married--whether if it’s taking my career to the next level, traveling the world with friends, etc. I would want to do it before settling down and getting married.
How do you think your relationship status has changed you as a person? How do you view yourself as a woman?
> After being heartbroken, I think it has matured my feelings a lot--also my standards and expectations when it comes to future partners. Dating, in general, has been mostly a positive experience--it’s kind of like trying something on before buying it--I get to pick and choose the things I like and don’t like about men--personality traits and whatnot.
So yeah, I would say I have definitely grown a lot as a person as well as emotionally.
I see myself as pretty badass. I’m extremely independent and as indecisive as I can be sometimes, I feel like I know what I want in regards to future relationships. I also feel like I don’t give myself enough credit for being strong--having gone through verbally abusive relationships to sexual assault. I don’t cut myself enough slack--and I can definitely be hard on myself. With that being said, I know my future’s going to be bright. I want to quit doubting myself and building up my confidence.
A song that defines me as a woman?
I actually have several: Woman by Kesha, God is a Woman by Ariana Grande, Flawless and Diva by Beyoncé, Most Girls by Hailee Steinfeld and Independent Women, Pt. I by Destiny’s Child
