LET US DEFINE IMMUNITY: The immunity system can be defined as the mechanism of the body to fight against infections or organisms and other invaders. There are three types of immunity in human beings namely innate, adaptive and passive.

For example, antibodies present in mother’s breast milk provides a baby temporary immunity against diseases the mom has been faced to. It protects the infant against infections during the early childhood.
Immune system differs from person to person. Some people have strong immunity whereas others get ill frequently.
PROBLEMS RELATED TO IMMUNE SYSTEM: There are four main categories of immune system disorders.
IMMUNODEFICIENCY DISORDERS: It happens when a part of the immune system in missing and does not work properly.
2. AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS: In this type of disorders, the immune system mistakenly attacks its own i.e. the body’s healthy organs and tissues as though they were alien or foreign invaders.
3. ALLERGIC DISORDERS: It takes place when the immune system overreacts to exposure to antigens in the surrounding. The substances that provoke such attacks are named as allergens. Swelling, watery eyes and sneezing are some of the symptoms caused by immune response.

For example, by adding mild spices to cooked vegetables, grains, the food will transform quickly to Ojas. We get good flavor by adding spices, which help in digestion. EATING THE RIGHT AMOUNT FOR OUR BODY TYPE: Ojas does not enhance and supports the immune system when we eat too much or too little. Hence, we should eat only 3/4 of our appetite, so that some space could be left for digestive process to take place. If we eat until we are really full, it causes discomfort and Ama.
EAT CONSISTENTLY, AT REGULAR INTERVALS OF TIME THROUGHOUT THE DAY: Regular meals help the body to absorb nourishment and stay energized. As a result, it increases the digestive fire. By adding medicinal Herbs to our diet like Basil, garlic, ginger, turmeric, olive leaf, amla and more, our body becomes ready to defend itself against invaders. As a result, our white blood cell count increases and others support the vital organs.
DETOX: In Ayurveda, ama (which stores toxins from undigested food) is one of the main reasons for diseases to develop. Indigestion and ama function hamper nutrients from reaching the tissues and it weakens immune function. We should detox regularly if we eat lots of unhealthy foods which are exposed to many environmental toxins. So, we must consume Sattavic diet. We should take easy – to – digest organic and fresh foods. Foods that are harder to digest like processed, canned, frozen or packaged should be avoided as they contain harmful ingredients such as chemical preservatives and thus create Ama.
So, we must consume organically grown foods which are devoid of dangerous chemicals and they contain more minerals. To enhance ojas and immunity, we must consume vegetarian proteins such as homemade cheese, milk and pulses (split- mung dhal, lentils and other small, split beans) etc. One should avoid meat as it is not a recommended protein because it is hard to digest and creates Ama.
3. LIFE STYLE MODIFICATION:
GET SOUND SLEEP: To enhance immunity and resist disease, sound sleep is must. When we rest, the body is very busy and active. During deep sleep, the immune system releases a proteins called, cytokines, some of which help promote sleep. A balanced cycle of rest and activity promote our immune cells to regenerate properly. Lack of sleep interrupts this cyclic process as a result, it increases the rates of diabetes, heart – disease, depression and other illnesses.
DO YOGA AND MEDITATION: The immunity response in the body is positively affected by yoga and meditation. As a result, our stress level is lowered.
