Spoilers for end of Star Trek Discovery season 4.
I’m trying to figure out how I feel about how this wrapped up, specifically the fact that Book and Ndoye both lived because when I was watching it I felt pretty strongly that they should have died.
Book is easier to explain.
The idea that the Ten-C, never having encountered anything like a transporter before would recognize that as transportation and decide it was important and realize that’s what Michael was talking about when she said she lost her One was a little too pat for me. Also, I think it would have been ok for Michael to be sad! This mission had enormous stakes and for there to be basically no emotional losses in order to accomplish the good outcome felt kind of hollow.
I feel more conflicted about Ndoye.

She made a mistake and was ready to give her life to fix it. She would have died to save her home. I feel like that’s what should have happened but I’m having trouble putting my finger on why. Do I feel that way because it’s the expected narrative beat? Or because, like Book, it feels like solving a problem this big should have required more sacrifice?
I have no answers! What do you think?
Side note: Stacey Abrams being the president of Earth is something I do not feel at all conflicted about. I knew it was coming and still bounced in my seat when it happened. Best cameo ever.
