It was no surprise that you were drawn to Subaru, the kindness in his eyes, the calmness, and the way that he dealt with things made everything easier

It certainly helps that he is model handsome~

But of course... He was none the wiser.

At least at first

Out of the corner of his eye on the rare occasion, he would see you outstretching your hand, only to tug it back super harshly and deny yourself exactly what you wanted.

At first, he thought it was a simple cute quirk

With someone who's touch could lead to a lot, maybe you were just reminding yourself of the monster. He could truly be, how much that touching him would let him in more than most people would be comfortable with.

Misaki denying her feelings for the captain at every turn. She could not be the one to betray Jin. No. Never. He was too kind to her, showed her enough grace and space, she could not be the one to falter just because she had feelings for the most handsome man she'd ever seen, Alan Mido.

Of course she wasn't having thoughts of lifting him! She was just thinking about ... Cars! Yes! That's the next new thing she would like to try!

He's on her mind too much lately, too stupidly had she looked at him it was noticeable, but how was she not to admire a man like that? Have you not seen how his vest buttons strain to keep together?! His eyes shine like the finest silver she had ever seen! That set in his jaw, what if she could make his lips twitch in a smile, even a slight one? He seemed so kind, every time she saw him feeding the cats that wander this school it made her stomach flip.

This feud. This dumb feud. It's fucking killing her, forcing her to bite at the skin of her fingers as MC informs her of everyone tagging along on this mission.

The names practically a curse word. A death sentence. If Misaki's left alone with him for any length of time it would surely cause her to combust.

Jin would never forgive her if she let it bust. Her captain - as a knight it is her priority. Matters of the heart have no right here. Even informing him to the mission he scoffs and levels a glare her way - forcing her eyes to flicker away in guilt. She has one job, protect MC, if he cannot join them on this mission then she shall be his stand in. Please, trust her, she will not fail nor will she falter.

When the permission is granted she happily texts her beloved MC, but as soon as she puts the phone down that aching pit in her stomach starts.

Misaki is doomed. Her fate sealed. Wanting to both squeal like she'd been asked on a date and let herself fall down the ice stairs. Whatever happens, she cannot fail him.

Misaki's familiar high pitched whine came out and before you were even able to turn your head - your whole body was met with the force of hers. Firm in so many places yet soft where she cradled your head, resting just beneath her collarbone as she held your body tight. Warm.

She was always so warm and such a comforting presence, it was almost hard to appreciate with that tension in your chest. Glancing up at her violet eyes, her callused hands instantly grasped your face and tilted it upward to hers.

"I knew I saw you, I knew it, I knew it was you," was she really all that relieved? It was just ... You, afterall, "I wanted to see you for so long - but Fuji keeps telling me to leave you alone. I'm sorry, but I can't stay away any longer!"

You heard the desperation, it ached at your stomach and clawed up your chest, pressing right beneath the ribcage. Her worry was warranted, in her position you would do nothing but the same but it's just been ...

You felt like chains were being dragged, trying to pull you back to your bedroom, to lay down all the weight where it felt the most dulled.

"Misaki-"

"MC."

Warm pads of her thumbs brushed against your cheeks and soothing the skin below.

"Today, please, let me do anything you'd like. Shopping, cooking, movies, I'll get us R&R permits, I don't care what I have to pay or what I have to do, I'll do it," Her voice was firm, but the way it wavered at the end caught your attention, "I'll do anything."

All you wanted was to hide. Go back to the warmth of your room and press beneath the blankets until it all just faded away. Every day the colors of the world got duller and all you could smell was fucking florals. Florals. You'd be happy if you never had to see a garden or smell a flower again in your life.

What did she want you to do? Pretend that everythings okay? Smile and joke around like you always did, maybe even let her attempt to try something new with you around?

Glancing towards her once more, your lips fixed in a placid denial - you stopped. That desperation in her eyes was almost asphyxiating. You knew her better than just that selfish want of hers to try something new or pull you into her orbit carelessly. This was the want of somebody needing to make a difference in your life - to show you in whatever way they could with as little time as you had that they cared.

Your vision blurred, every line in her face and color only becoming brighter behind the lights reflection in your tears. Burying your face inside of her warm body, doing your best to try and hold it together or pull back from this break. But all of your tears were unstoppable. All you could do was grasp at the woman in front of you like a lifeline and not stop until you were safely back in your room. A warm blanket surrounding you and even warmer arms refusing to let you go.

Time seemed to swell, passing much faster that your mind would keep up with. Only vague ideas of what happened, Misaki gently sweeping your hair off the floor and your head feeling lighter. Your head felt lighter, warmer, the hairdryer felt kind of nice and the brush was gentle - practiced.

"Misaki...?" You called gently.

"Shhhhh..." Her warm hand brushed over your hair, smiling softly. Your bed gently creaking beneath her weight as she pulled the blanket up a little higher. "Just relax, please. I'm not going anywhere."
