Waterborne Online Release
Greetings Sena, from the Waterborne Team!
When we first came up with the idea of doing a short film about a zombie kangaroo nearly two years ago, you were kind enough to help us spread the word and to let people know about our little project. Your help was greatly appreciated - we made a film that’s been in over 50+ festivals around the world, and has even picked up a bunch of awards! But after a year on the festival circuit, we’ve decided it’s time to put Waterborne online for all to enjoy - and we just wanted to let you know, in case you’re interested in writing something up about it. The film will go live on June 15, and we are encouraging everyone to jump on our facebook page so that they can keep up to date with the various competitions etc that we’ll be doing in the leadup…. so if you’ve got the time and feel like sharing this news with your networks (social media, emails, or whatever you like), or feel like writing an article on the film / launch, that would be amazing. We’ve attached a press release that has all the info but please let us know if there’s anything else you might need. We’re really excited about getting the film out into the world so any help we can get in spreading the word would be wonderful. We’ll drop you a line again once the film goes live - but in the meantime, feel free to let the world know that our zombieroo is coming! Much zombieroo love, Marisa (our producer) on behalf of the Waterborne team. ——–
Waterborne Media Release - For immediate release
Zombie kangaroo short ‘Waterborne’ to be unleashed online on June 15
After a rapturous reception at the Opening Night of St Kilda Film Festival in May, award-winning Australian zombie kangaroo short, ‘Waterborne’, will be made available to watch online from midnight on June 15 for a limited time.
The film will be free to view at www.waterbornemovie.com but fans are also encouraged to follow the official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/waterbornemovie for merchandise giveaways, exclusive behind the scenes content and live Q&A’s with the cast and crew.
The self-contained short film, which features a ‘zombie kangaroo’ that attacks a ranger on a deserted bush road, also acts as a proof-of-concept for a feature length project currently in development.
Since the first screening twelve months ago, Waterborne has received rave reviews at numerous international genre festivals including Fantasia International Film Festival (Montreal), Fantastic Fest (Austin), Stanley Film Festival (Denver) and Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia. It has since been shown at over 50 festivals worldwide, including a number of Academy Award accredited festivals.
Written by Ryan Coonan and Richard Barcaricchio, the film has also won several awards including Best Australian Short at the Monster Films’ ‘Monster Fest’ in Melbourne, Best Short at the Abertoir Horror Festival in Wales, Best Microshort Zombie Film at Fear Fete in Missouri, and Best International Horror Short at Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Fest.
“We receive so many requests from fans eager to watch the film but unable to make it to the festival screenings that we decided to give the world a chance to see it in between festival screenings,” said Waterborne producer, Marisa Brown.
Sena Says:
Oh wow! This message was a real surprise to find in my inbox, that’s for sure!
While I’m certain 99% of it was a cut-and-paste email that was sent to anyone who promoted/blogged about Waterborne over the last while, just the fact that it had my name at the beginning and that they took the time to actually send it to me (and likely a lot of other people as well) says a lot about the team behind the film. I’m really impressed!
And the message as a whole is really good news too, especially for people like me who can’t get to film festivals to see these kinds of indie films while they’re on the circuit. I would have LOVED to see Waterborne in the theater, but it just wasn’t going to happen, and I’ve been on pins and needles waiting for it to be released online or to order on DVD so that I could finally see it!
In any case, as stated in the above press release, Waterborne will go live on the official website on June 15th–that’s just nine days away! So make a note and check it out when the time comes because I definitely will be, and I’ll be sure to write an article on it once I’ve watched it as well. :)
