Something within him awakened, causing him to gasp softly when he swore he saw a shimmer of gold stars in the groove. Could it be?
A gentle breeze surrounded him, bringing up the scent of lavender leaves, cool eucalyptus, and juniper berries, with a mixture of rainwater and chamomile; a wonderful scent that had him smiling.
“I’m comin’ Da.” He whispered back as he heard the voice again.
“I’m comin’ home.” He added and began to follow the star dust that appeared within the wind.
“Every inch of me is trembling,
But not from this cold night~
Something is familiar like
A dream I can’t quite hold.”
The wind enveloped him, a hug in a sense, as the forest even seemed to aid him, helping him stay from tripping or meeting any nasty surprise.
Like a friend, I've always known
And it feels like I am finally home.”
Stephan couldn’t help the joy welling up as he looked around. The darkness was now more like a deep teal blue-wait was that the actual color of the bark?!
He couldn’t help his giddiness as he squeaked, running his hands along; the bark lit up too! And he could feel the tree’s joy-ah, it was welcoming him?
He giggled before the wind nudged him along and he laughed a little as if it tickled him soon once more following the wind.
“I’ve always had to be this fortress
Had to keep secrets inside.
But now you’ve guided me here,
So please don’t hide.”
He should have felt uneasy, unnerved by the pull that he felt, but he didn’t. It was invigorating, and exciting, as if he was a child again!
“Are you the one I've been looking for
All of my life?” He sang softly when he came to a fork in the groove that was covered in brambles, and thorns, all writhing like snakes when he saw flowers that appeared to be demonic. That should have scared him and yet, all he sensed was serenity when looking at them.
The voice was coming from the other side of the brambles and as he stepped forward, they carefully unwound themselves to let him through. A demonic rose even kissed his cheek, a leaf tickled his chin making him shiver with joy.
Something else was being born…
It was awakening and he could feel it.
This new energy hummed through his veins and for a moment he took it all in. It felt like he was finally taking in his first breath of the cleanest air he’s been missing his whole life. Stephan then broke out into a run, letting the forest and winds guide him.
“I've never felt so certain
All my life I've been scorned.
But I'm here for a reason
Could it be the reason I was born?”
He came to some kind of river and knelt before it, soon touching the waters and he shivered from the coolness of it. Much to his amazement, thick black columns that acted as stepping stones rose from the depths and led to a lagoon with a waterfall. Taking his shoes off and putting them into the duffle bag he was carrying–he then looked at it and abandoned it completely, soon continuing to make his way carefully across the river.
“I have always felt so different and
That normal rules did not apply.
I’ll finally find out why!”
The waters seemed to surround him, forming into little demonic birds that seemed to guide him beyond the lagoon and to the waterfall. Now this was going to be tricky, he knew the dangers and couldn’t stop the pout from forming but he recalled how some waterfalls would hide caves, alcoves, and places to hide. There are even rumors and stories of how waterfalls hid gateways to other realms; kinda like the forest he had been in. Thus instead of feeling fear, Stephan smiled at the challenge before him. In some ways, it felt like he was being born.
