#misc: cedar

some doodles just for fun, cause im getting a tad worried that im overworking myself a bit with projects and ideas-

ive once again procrastinated doing my animation by trying to think of 'doodle ideas' that eventually turn into bigger pieces-

this time, I got inspired by Hozier's 'Wasteland, Baby' postcards, and thought it'd be really cool to draw Sebastian like that-

and then i really wanted to do something similar for Cedar, since I had a lot of fun, but I wasn't aware of other postcards, so I looked at songs I liked and found a different photo relating to Fin's 'Exposure', so I decided to do that-

I do want to emphasise though, I did trace the references a bit when it came to the poses (and especially for Hozier's shirt), cause I didn't want to get frustrated figuring it out (cause i did start getting frustrated-) but i only did so for the sketch, after that I purely referenced the photos-

i unfortunately did not suddenly get better at drawing ._. though i hope i learned something from this- at the very least, i know for a fact im getting better with rendering now : D

todays quick doodle is based off of this comment from my previous post, cause you know what, ill give cedar a small break sure- (let me know if its not okay to tag, but thank you @druidofcheese for the idea : D i dunno if its necessary to tag but it felt right-)

(cant tell you why, but i remember first trying dr pepper and hating it cause it weirdly tasted like chocolate???and it felt wrong to me- but relatively recently, i tried it again for the first time in years and it tasted exactly like candy hearts???? and ive been obsessed with it since lol-)

as an extra fun little fact, his favourite drink would probably be cream soda : D (but he also has a bias to anything thats sparkling-)

like promised, heres the cute piece i was talking about yesterday : 3

i randomly thought of this idea and realised i should probably come up with a new header anyways- Oreo is lovely, but i love these guys too ;-;

i decided to change the front pattern bit for cedar in the end- initially that lighter yellow went to his nostrils, but i realised quickly that was a pain to do, so i kept it simple-

also as a cedar fun fact: the inside of his mouth is white now! this is because 1. the mouths of chinese giant salamanders are white! i wanted to add more visual aspects from them than just their skin texture, so i decided to add that! and 2. i....thought itd be funny....i dunno, the visual of cedar yawning or going to bite someone and said someone just seeing white is really funny to me and i dont know how to explain it- it might be because of how blinding the colour white can be in light? my brain keeps vaguely thinking 'void' because of it-

(as a fun fact for serafín too so i can give something for him, the fin on his back isnt from a shark- the tiny one above his back legs are, but the 'main' one is from an orca! and its specifically a female orca fin : 3 i really wanted to make serafín purposefully intersex after processing that sebastian wasnt purposefully given that identity, and i dont think it was recognised by the devs either- human serafín is intersex too and got top surgery as well cause it was more comfy for him : D ) (i know you cant actually see that fin here- but i thought id bring it up anyways if im giving a fact about cedars biology (?))

this was really fun to do though : 3 (ignoring the fact that when searching for what canvas size id need, i couldnt find a definite one and ended up using the wrong size, then had to try and fix it and its STILL not perfect but im just pretending everythings fine-)

im trying to figure out the pfp next, but i dont know if i like the current one i finished..i might use it as a placeholder just cause it matches the new colours, but ill see if it sticks- or if i even do that in the first place-

but also, heres the flat colours for both of them : D (cause i took the screenshot for myself as reference, and cause its most likely gonna take a while until i get a proper ref sheet out ._.)

super random, but i find it really funny that Cedar hates Samuel when I think hes a really cool character (partly for all the reasons Cedar would hate them for lol, i just think theyre genuinely terrifying and thats just a really cool and fun thing to explore to me-)

but everytime i draw Samuel or just see art of them in general, my brain cant help but keep going back to some interaction like this- (Samuel being @smiuffzo's oc : D)

plus a lil close up of Samuel cause he turned out really cute looking??? (do not be deceived by this)

have to be so honest, i didnt realise it was easter until people started posting about it- (or, more accurately, i didnt process it- i literally had an egg hunt today and my brain didnt process that it was for a reason :'D)

so i didnt have many good ideas, nor the time to do anything bigger ._. but i offer a grumpy sebastian and a cedar (you can tell which idea i was more confident with lol-)

this has been fighting a bit to get posted finally- (this was meant to be a super quick and basic sketch for a longer idea that i then did not finish in a day like planned, so it became its own thing- and then i fought with the colours, freaked out about whether it was more 'mean' than my previous comic, and then kept trying to find 'the right time' to post it, on top of triple checking everything ever couple of minutes- i am a very nervous person ;-;)

a Samuel ( @smiuffzo's oc) and Cedar comic, again : D (i have other comic ideas too i promise-)

warning for bright colours (also in the tags), but do also let me know if i need to add any other warnings and i will do so as soon as i can o7

(alts dont have anything special this time ._. they do have info on the colours i used and why (in terms of colour psychology) but it slightly repetitive, and anyones free to interpret those the way they want to-)

(not to be biased, but that last shot might be my favourite- because look at that smug fucker, he knows what hes doing- if theyre gonna have a deal where they leave each other alone temporarily, they at least want to scare Samuel a little before the deal fully starts- its only fair-)

This is an idea I've had for a bit now, actually, but I didn't have any immediate drawing ideas and I drew the storyboard for it during a social event, so I thought it'd finally be worth it to try- That and I don't draw Cedar and Painter interacting much? Which is sad, cause I think they'd get along really well-

I'm really happy with how this turned out though, I actually liked most my sketches for this, and I had fun with the shading even if its not the most accurate-

But also, 'hunting mode' Cedar is a delight for me to draw, moreso than I expected. I think I'll render one of the storyboards from this, just cause I'd love to really push the shading to give a more 'creepy' vibe-
