        bray hasn’t been home for long --- a half-hour is nothing when he’s been away for days --- but the routine is easy to fall into. her arms fit snug about his waist like always, and her cheeks, rosy as ever, pull up with the curve of a soft smile. she drinks him in with starry eyes. “yer hair’s gettin’ longer, ya know.”

        Avery was staring at the little girl who had taken it upon herself to pick a load of grass from the field then proceed to roll around in it. “Our daughter... is strange.” he mumbled absently to Bray,  gaze flickering over to the curly haired male. “Her friends all went on a holiday at the play group... I think we should try that...”

     Gee had never been to Blaze’s place of work before, if she was honest she did all she could to ignore his line of work as best as possible. But today had been particularly shitty and she just wanted to see him. Arguing with a receptionist hadn’t been involved in that. “I am his god damn wife, do you see this ID, Haaaayden, right here.” okay maybe it was their middle name but whatever, they didn’t need to know that specific.

            THEY AREN’T CLOSE BY ANY MEANS, past interactions limited to the occasional art show or even rarer collaboration ; but that doesn’t stop wren from settling at kaleem’s table as though it’s a perch they’re entitled to. eyes narrowed in careful inspection dart this way and that behind black-rimmed glasses and for a moment, there’s nothing said, nothing done on the part of the curious witch. instead, they watch, wait, contemplate. the analysis drags on for what no doubt feels like an eternity before they announce in matter-of-fact tones: “you are different.”
