My Pageant Experience.
Looking back at it, I honestly loved my pageant experience. Previous to entering Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated's Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant, I was always someone's pageant mom and I was able to witness the growth that my friends went through, which was something I wanted to experience. I felt as though even though I call myself Akan the Great, I'm not the greatest at everything. Through this pageant, I wanted to learn what I'm not great at in order to improve and be great at it. I'm not even going to lie to you, but my pageant journey was pure HELL! Dealing with fuckin females and their irrelevant opinion every fuckin day was a nightmare, but I pulled through. I had to remember why I was doing this pageant, which was to celebrate myself, celebrate my journey, and to tell my story. I wanted to show another side of me that many people have never seen. I opened up about the death of my mother, how it effected me, and displayed how I am living proof that God can turn my greatest hurt into my greatest calling. There were times when I wanted to give up and there were plenty of times where I walked out of practice but at the end it was worth it. Although I didn't get the title of Miss Black and Gold, I'm blessed I got the title of Miss 1906. I was able to gain a new sense of confidence, gain my lovely pageant sisters. build lifelong relationships, and I was able to celebrate myself while sharing my story. Will I do it all over again if I had to? HELL to the mothafuckin YEAH. It was definitely worth it and I truly recommend everyone to experience entering a pageant sometime of their life.
