Altered Carbon Season 2
Ive been re-watching Season 2 and I realise I never made a post about it.
I'll start with saying that after watching season 1 I read both Altered Carbon and Broken Angels. And I really enjoyed them too.
Of course the show has taken a different route from the books so I thought that it would side step Broken Angels entirely as it would make no sense with Kovacs show plot. That said I was glad that certain elements from this book were brought in.
1. Joshua Kemp and the war for example, and how it turned out, this was a nice touch and it made more sense for this War to be on Harlan's World rather than a random planet like Sanction IV.
2. Trepp who was someone who really shone in her limited role in the first book and who is given a much better storyline in the show.
3. Tanya Wardani has been split into Miss Dig and Trepps wife which I also thought was nice because I didn't care for the original character.
4. Issac Carrera is now Ivan Carrera and still the head of the Wedge, but also Jaeger. The random first name change aside I liked this incarnation better because of the history with Kovacs. Jaeger is a wonderfully complex character and I was glad we got so much more of him and hope we see more. Because I hope he had a backup or the protectorate does.
But certain things were missing which I felt could have been better.
1. The Wedge. And Kovacs' team. There were colourful characters and would have been fun to watch. Also the Wedge itself now being some sort of protectorate agency without any background instead of a Mercenary Company large enough to be a player in the power struggles on Sanction IV.
2. Elder Mythology. I liked that they kept in the bit about nest mother's and also the addition about the songspire saving the soul of one. But the final reveal of Broken Angels was so much more, exciting and also frightening. But I do like that the founders of Harlan's World killed one of the only Elder humanity has ever encountered. It's classic shitty human behaviour.
3. Danica Harlan was too like th Meths that came before her in season one, there were no surprises here.
4. Actually save for a few twists the plot was more predictable, and Kovacs was less of an Envoy. The flights were just better in season 1.
I really don't know how season 3 is going to go, because there may be two Kovacs' again which is a little stale. Is Quell going to rebuild the Envoys? Is it going to be the same thing again?
I just know I want to see more of the Elders and Jaeger.
