▼ five times my muse has caught yours getting off, and the one time they help out.
1. The first time it happened, Bucky was returning from meeting with Shuri. Every now and again the princess calls him in to run a little maintenance and make upgrades on the arm she had created for him. He often feels a bit bad that he doesn’t get much use out of it. Most of the time he lets it collect dust in the hut that he and Steve share. Thankfully Shuri doesn’t seem to mind that small fact, he wonders if it’s because she understands that this is part of his recovery – having a choice with his lost limb. As long as she still gets to upgrade it and he’ll test it out then the princess is happy. As he approaches the hut, it’s early evening, the sun is starting to set over the lake. He idly wonders if Steve would want to go into the city for dinner. He smells the sweat first, his enhanced senses pick up on the musky scent first. Bucky concludes that the other has just finished up the evening chores, which he’s secretly thankful for. The day has been grueling, however the sight he’s greeted with as he ducks into the hut is not the one he was expecting. The other man is sprawled out on their shared bed, head thrown back carelessly against the pillows and his chest is flushed such a warm pink that can almost feel the heat from where he stands helplessly in the doorway. The man’s cock is curved up into his large freckled hand and he can hear the strangled grunts from where he stares. Oh god he’s staring. Bucky makes a break for it the never next moment, his own face a deep red and his pants are becoming a little too tight.
2. The second time it happened, Bucky had been asleep. He had vaguely heard the bathtub run on the other side of the divider before he’d dozed back into a sleep. Bucky isn’t the world’s most heavy sleeper. He reasons it’s got a bit to do with forced cryo and his body doesn’t really remember what it’s like to actually sleep. So when he’s sleepy, he tried to take full advantage of the hours he can get. However there’s something that slowly pulls him back into consciousness, it’s some sort of muffled noise. Bucky isn’t exactly sure what it is, but he can also hear the gentle splashing of water on the side of the tub. It takes a few moments for Bucky’s mind to get with the program. The muffled noises become clearer to the man’s mind as he begins to actually wake up. Steve’s trying to keep quiet. The thought alone has Bucky’s own cock twitching in interest, he can almost see the image in his mind. Steve’s hand wrapped around himself, fisting in an unsteady rhythm under the water, lip caught between his teeth as he attempted not to wake Bucky. Except Bucky is very awake now. He can feel the heat rising up his chest and he wills it away. He can’t very well slip his own hands down under the covers and fix the growing issue. So instead, he rolls over on his front and smothers his face into the pillow. Hopefully the noises will end soon and Steve will be none the wiser that Bucky was awake.
3. The third time it happened, Bucky was settled out in the cool breeze. The morning had been warm as always, but a cool breeze had blown in the afternoon Steve had made himself scarce finding solstice inside their shared hut. Bucky understood the other’s reasoning. Steve hadn’t died on impact once he flew the place into the ocean, he was awake when he had slowly froze into his cryogenic state. So whenever the temperature drops, Steve finds things to do inside and Bucky finishes up the afternoon chores with ease. For a while he sits by himself on the shore of the lake, which makes the air even more chilled. His hair blows in the wind and the sun is little help to ease the chill, though he sits asking in it anyways. He lets his mind wander, some thoughts as simple as upgrading the feed for the chickens and others are a bit more frightening ones that he has started to train himself to move away from. Eventually he begins to worry for Steve when the temperature drops below what is normal for Wakanda. It’s very unusual for the temperature to dip this low and during the day is even more odd. So he heads into the hut, his mouth opens to ask Steve if he’s got the fire going but he stops in his tracks. The bigger man’s frame is shuddering, a hand braced on the kitchen counter. Bucky’s heart clenches in his chest for a moment, thinking the man is having a hard time. Expect the noise that leaves Steve’s throat is not one of distress but of… pleasure. Bucky bites back the curse and despite his body screaming at him to stay, he lets the cloth of their door close in front of him. He has to screw his eyes shut for a moment before taking a few backwards steps away from the hut.
4. The fourth time it happened, Bucky was sleeping. His back facing his friend, blanket thrown haphazardly around his waist. The body next to him is warm, which is helping him slowly doze back into sleep but… that body is also moving. Bucky figures Steve is just getting comfortable, resettling himself or putting himself in some obnoxious position that will end with Steve somehow on top of Bucky. Expect the movements don’t seem to still, and for a moment Bucky’s concerned that Steve was having a nightmare. But that musky scent suddenly filled every single one of his senses and he feels an overwhelming need to turn over. He knows what Steve is doing and it should not be as hot as it is. He can feel the repetitive motions of Steve’s hand caressing his cock, and the way his breathing stutters the closer he gets to coming. With his eyes closed he can almost see Steve in his mind, the sweat that drips down his brow with the effort of keeping quiet and keeping his motions to the minimum. Bucky doesn’t dare move; he doesn’t want to throw Steve off that desperate rhythm or embarrass him. Instead he clenches his jaw in effort not to shove his own hand down into his boxers. The man is quickly learning what Steve’s tell is when he’s close to coming, and Bucky wonders what it would be like if he was the reason that Steve was falling apart. He so much wants to turn over and see his face when he finally tips over the wonderful edge. But they just aren’t there yet… and so Bucky just has to sit up the rest of the night and imagine what it looks like.
5. The fifth time it happened, Bucky was sweating. The heat was stifling, it was the peak of summer in Wakanda and they weren’t always this brutal but they are right now. He had long abandoned his shirt and sweat was trailing down his spine and collecting at the curve of his back. Steve had excused himself a little before, claiming he was going to make them a bit of lemonade. Bucky of course he had joked that Steve was turning into his own little housewife, making lemonade for him on hot days. Though it was taking Steve way too damn long to make a little bit of lemonade so he decides to take things into his own hands. Tossing one last halebale into the pile, Bucky slipped off the knit pants he was wearing and tossed them aside on the shore of the lake. It was an easy slide in the water, it was much cooler than the temperature outside. He let himself slowly sink under the water and stay there for a few seconds. He was only sporting one arm, so an actual swim was out of question. He stayed in the water for a bit while longer, water coming right up to his waist. Though his thirst was finally starting to get the best of him; he finally decided to make his way out of the water and towards the hut. The coolness of the water doesn’t last long so it’s nice to finally be in the shade of the hut. With a quick glance around Steve’s not in the main room, but there’s lemonade on the counter. It’s the sound that Bucky hears first, it's a quick grunt. Bucky’s fist opens and closes a few times as he collects his quickly fading resolve. He doesn’t know how much longer he’s going to last with Steve torturing him in such a way. Bucky forces himself back out of the hut, and back into the coolness of the water. He at least has a bit of privacy out here where he can slip his own hand down under the water.
6. The sixth time it happened, Bucky had been gone for most of the day. He had been thinking about starting up missions with Steve again but was still a bit worried about his mind. So he had gone to do a little training with Shuri and T’challa, to test out a few kinks. In a couple of days he’ll go back up with Steve to do even more training but right now he just wants a nice meal with Steve down by the lake and a simple evening. However it seems that Bucky won’t get that simple evening, no he’s greeted once again by the sight of Steve stripped down. The other man’s eyes are screwed shut as his hand works quickly and Bucky can’t tear his eyes away. They watch like a predator, pupils blown and mouth agape. This time is different from the other’s because this time around, Steve catches him. His own nickname is choked from the man’s mouth, cheeks reddening from what Bucky can only assume is embarrassment. But Bucky shushes him. “ ‘s alright, Stevie. Lemme help.” Before he can even think about his own words or his actions, he’s moving across the room. His knees carefully hit the floor and Bucky’s flesh hand reaches up gently caressing the other’s tanned thigh. Bucky dips in closer and noses along the other’s thigh. The gasp is the best thing he’s heard all day. HIs mouth meet’s the other’s sensitive flesh, first he kisses it -- it's warm and slow… but the closer he gets to Steve’s cock he begins to bite and nip, sucking dark red marks into the skin there that makes the other man squirm. “Always make such pretty noises.” He tells the man, looking up at him through his lashes. He tentatively swirls his tongue around the head of Steve’s cock, it’s already red and swollen from his hand. The first push of it into his mouth has harsh fingers tangling in his hair, the bigger man clearly looking for restraint, anything to ground him. The pump of his mouth is slow and agonizing, though he watches the way that Steve’s face twists in pleasure as he moves along the long length of him. He feels drunk -- he wants the other to beg him, plead for more of his mouth. But until Bucky gets what he wants, both of his hands stay placed on the other’s hips keeping the bigger man in place. His fingers rub bruising circles into the bones as he barely pushes his mouth halfway down Steve’s cock. The man is getting antsy and desperate Bucky can tell. It’s only when those beautifully rough pleas begin to fall from Steve’s mouth, chants of Bucky’s name and please are the only words that fall from his lips. Having mercy on Steve, the male relents his grip on the other’s hips as he pushes all the way down. He can feel the cock hit the back of his throat and Steve's entire body shudders. Metal and flesh fingers claw their way down Steve’s thighs, urging him to move. It’s primal and dirty. Steve is hunched over Bucky as a hand grips the back of Bucky’s head, his hips thrust and rut into Bucky’s hot mouth. With Steve already being worked up before this, it doesn’t last long. The thrusting gets uneven and all of Steve’s pretty noises grow louder until they are the only thing bouncing off the hut’s walls. One, two, three more thrusts and it’s over, Steve’s spilling down Bucky’s throat and slumping backwards. It’s a sticky sort of pop as Bucky slide’s off the man’s cock and he can feel how swollen his lips are but he’s smirking a bit anyways. “You always this filthy, Rogers?”
It’s been a long time since Steve Rogers was sick. Though ever since Steve had given up ‘Captain America’ for Natasha, he had been returned back to his sickly and frail state. While the illnesses have no longer threat of killing Steve, that doesn’t mean they’re any easier to deal with. This is the fourth time just today that Bucky had headed into the drug store to get anything to soothe Steve’s terrible cough and aching body. This whole new age of medicine thing is new to them both. So Bucky makes his way slowly down the aisle for ‘cold’ and ‘flu’, picking up each bottle of liquid and pill pack and reading the back of the packets. They all seem to have such big bold claims and Bucky feels a little lost as he shoves another rattling bottle onto the shelf. The poor woman at the pharmacy had seen Bucky so many times today and it seems that she’s finally felt remorse for his confused state and made her way over. “Can I help you find something?” She asks gently. While Bucky would love to shoo her away, tell her he’s fine.. he’s beyond confused. He crinkles his nose a bit before sighing and giving her a slow nod. “Friend of mine’s got a cough and body aches. – ‘m sure he’s got a fever too.” She smiles softly at him and searches the self for a few things before pulling out two bottles of liquid for him. “It sounds just like a cold, here’s something for daytime and nighttime.” It’s a relief to finally have something that can soothe Steve’s ailments. “Thank you.” He tells the woman and she summons him to follow her so he can check out and not visit this damn store again.
Getting Steve to actually take the medication is another damn hassle in it’s own. He’s a stubborn bastard who’s survived colds before, claiming he doesn’t need the medication to help. Though Bucky figures after 80 years of not being ill, it doesn’t matter if he’s survived it before this or not – it can’t be enjoyable. “Do not make me force this down your throat, Rogers.” He grunts as he shoves the cup full of dark liquid towards the smaller male. “If you take this you won’t be sick for two weeks like you used to be.” The other seems to weigh his options for a moment and Bucky holds his breath in hopes that Steve finally fucking thinks this through. “Come on, Stevie.” His voice is bordering on desperation, he can’t help but feel that familiar worry pull in his stomach. There were so many times that there was nothing that Bucky could do to help, he was forced to sit and watch as Steve suffered. Now that there was something he could do to help? He wasn’t going to sit quietly anymore. A grunted ‘fine’ is given in return and Bucky feels his shoulders finally relax. He kneels down on the edge of the bed to hand over the little cup to Steve, watching as the other begrudgingly swallows the whole cup down. His face squishes up in displeasure and the bigger male can’t help but chuckle. “You deserve that after being a stubborn bastard.” He teases the other as he helps Steve settled back into bed. Bucky is careful to not actually touch the male, still being overly cautious around the other’s returned small frame. But he helps get the blankets situated and Steve returns to idly watching television.
“I’ve got a few files to finish up reading, don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone.” He gets a snort in return as Bucky slips out of the room. It’s odd to not be in the room with Steve while he’s ill – there was a time that you couldn’t peel Bucky from Steve’s side when he was sick. But times are different, Bucky as actual work to do and Steve isn’t going to die at a moments notice.. he also knows if he was in the room with Steve he’d spend more time just staring than doing actual work. So it’s best for him right now to finish up the few things he has to do for SHIELD before spending the rest of the evening just gazing at his best friend while he coughs a lung up.
Bucky gets so lost in his work he doesn’t realize it’s nearly midnight and a violent cough from down the hall has Bucky abandoning all of that at moments notice. The bigger male slips into the other’s bedroom and is greeted with a hand outstretched in a way to keep him at bay until Steve’s tiny frame is gasping for air after the last cough. “Never thought I’d hear that noise comin’ from your body again.” He tries and earns a bit of a halfhearted glare from Steve. He ignores it in favor of pouring another small cup of the medicine which Bucky knows he’s allowed to take again since he read the directions one hundred times to make sure he wouldn’t kill his friend. This time it’s taken with little to no argument, so Bucky knows that Steve must feel much more terrible now that he did earlier. Once again, he’s kneeling on the bed to return the covers to their rightful place over Steve’s body. “Try to get some sleep, alright?” Moving to click the tv off, he’s making his leave to see if he can attempt to get some sleep of his own.
However this time is different than earlier, a gentle hand catches his metal one as he turns to leave. Bucky feels a mix of emotions, his strongest one is to yank the metal hand away – not let Steve touch such harsh curves and rough edges. He thinks Steve deserves better than that, someone who is just as gentle as he is. Though his other emotions just want him to melt, collapse to his knees and rest his hand in Steve’s for the rest of time. As Bucky turns to look over his shoulder, those big dumb blue eyes seem to bore right into his soul. “I don’t want to fall asleep without you.“ The words are spoken barely above a whisper and Bucky feels like his heart is being pulled out of his throat. How the hell is supposed to say no to that? Any excuse he could even begin to think of has strayed for far from his mind, his mind is just filled with Steve, Steve, Steve. Now nothing else matters in this moment expect the way Steve is tugging on his arm. It’s clear as day that Steve Rogers will always and forever be his weak spot.
Unlike all those years ago, when Bucky climbed into bed with Steve, there is plenty of room for both of them. Yet the smaller male doesn’t move an inch, so he has to slip in close next to Steve who’s now turning his back against him so that Bucky can fit perfectly along his back. He feels the other’s small frame rumble against his chest as he coughs and Bucky remembers something from their childhood that always soothed Steve. He snakes his flesh arm and hand over Steve’s side and the palm of his hand rests over the other’s chest. He presses gently against the male’s chest before rubbing in slow circles. The motions earn him a pleased groan that sends chills right down his spine. “Try to get some sleep you stubborn bastard.” He tells him, the words grumbled into Steve’s shoulder.
“you want me to rub your back ’til you fall asleep?”
Bucky didn’t mean to cause trouble. -- But his ma just didn’t get it, she didn’t understand his relationship with Steve and she’s accused him time and time again of caring for the Rogers’ more than he cares his about his own family. That’s far from the truth, Bucky loves his family, he just doesn’t want to be a father. They’ve got a goddamn father, he just works all the damn time so when he is home he’s absent. He truly just can’t win, either he’s underfoot when he’s trying to help or he’s picking Sarah and Steve over his own family. Tonight isn’t an unusual night, Bucky gets home late -- knuckles cleaned but bruised, nose a little sore with a busted lip. He and Steve got into another fight with some group of rowdy boys who were bothering a few innocent girls. They stepped in and did what was right. Afterwards they both had shuffled home to Steve’s so they could clean each other up. With school in the morning and Bucky spending most of the weekend at Steve’s, Bucky had decided it would be best if he at least spent one night at home and help with breakfast in the morning.
He’s confronted with questions the moment he walks in through the front door. The two littlest Barnes’ greet Bucky with excitement in the pjs. He’s scolded when he sweeps them into a hug that he’s upset bedtime. Bucky hums at his mother, tells her that he’ll get him settled. She seems to like the idea enough for her to return the kitchen and finish ironing the kids’ school clothing. He scoops the two kids up, causing them both to giggle and Rebecca isn’t far behind to help Bucky wrangle the kids into bed. The two littlest siblings share a room, so its easy for Bucky and Rebecca to put on their own little play -- telling the kids some silly dramatic bed time stories with so much adventure that the story itself wears the kids out. They’re out like a light and Bucky’s pleased with their work. Tired feet drag on the floor as he shuts the door behind him only to be met with Rebecca pushing up on her toes to inspect Bucky’s bruising face. “Just a little tussle, you shoulda seen the other guys.” Before Rebecca can scold Buck -- it seems his mother heard his voice. She grabs his face roughly and inspects it. Then the lecture starts. She’s reminding him how scummy she thinks Steve and his mother are, how they do nothing but get Bucky into trouble and that Bucky’s turning into a menace of a child. “If I ain’t protecting Steve then nobody is.” He tells his mother, voice low. The grip on his jaw tightens a bit more as he’s reminded that his job is to be here for his family. “They are my family.”
The noise rings loudly in the house, Bucky’s cheek stings with the strength of the hit. The boy stumbles backwards, and he stares wide eyed at his mother. She doesn’t seem all that remorseful for her actions, in fact she points her finger in his face telling him to watch his mouth if he wants to keep living under her roof. Rebecca stands motionless, it’s clear this is the first time their mother has ever raised a hand to her children but its apparent that it wasn’t her first time thinking about doing such a thing. His sister, the wonderful girl goes in to come to his aid but his mother’s arm reaches out to stop Rebecca. She tells her daughter to go to her room, that Bucky earned the punishment for talking back. In a moment, the hallway is empty, his sister scurried off and his mother back to the kitchen. He doesn’t think, he doesn’t care enough to think. He’s leaving for the night, he can’t be dammed to stay here. Bucky ducks into his room, locking the door behind him. He doesn’t care if his mother gets any angrier at him than she is now. Bucky at the Rogers’ home so often, he knows he doesn’t need to pack a bag. He’s left countless objects of clothing at their home, so all Bucky needs to do is climb out the window and he’s off to a place where he knows he’ll be taken care of.
It’s far too late now in his mind to walk through the front door despite knowing where the key is. The last time he came in this late he almost go knocked out by a frying pan -- so instead he climbs up the fire escape, sliding Steve’s window open. He wonders idly if the boy leaves it unlocked just in case Bucky comes by and if he does he’s thankful for it in this moment. He slips into the room, landing on his feet heavily. The weight hadn’t hit him until he’s standing here in Steve’s room. His legs feel like lead and he doesn’t even feel like he can cross the short length of the room to get to Steve’s bed. Thankfully, the boy in question sits up slow and blinks at him blearily calling out his nickname into the dark. “’s me Stevie.” He tells the other, voice shaking much more than he’d like it to be. Even in his tired state, Steve seems to know that something is wrong. And god he needs that, he needs someone who knows him. The blonde shifts, there’s barely enough room for Steve on the small mattress but yet here he is still offering space to Bucky.
That’s all that it takes for the floodgates to open. Bucky’s shoulders sag heavily, a hiccuped sob leaves his lips and it causes Steve to nearly stumbled out of bed to get to his side. He knows he can’t throw all of his weight into Steve’s arms like he wishes he could, but the warmth of Steve’s hand guiding him on the small of his back is enough in this moment to get him to stumble towards the other side of the room. Bucky all but collapses onto the bed, his forehead easily finding Steve’s shoulder as one of the smaller man’s hand comes to rest on the back of his neck while the other takes a few tries to flick on a lamp. “-- Told you it needs a new bulb.” He tells Steve, trying to force himself to tease. It falls flat in his ears and no doubt in Steve’s ears too. The other male asks him softly what happened, because it’s not often that Bucky is like this. He much prefers to be the one caring for Steve -- but when the tables are turned Steve’s filling in the caring roll more than perfectly. Steve’s gentle with him in his sensitive state, letting him take his time with explaining.
“Ma and I got in a fight.” And he knows Steve is waiting for more information. Bucky hardly ever gets this upset when he and his mother fight, in fact he gets more upset when he and Steve have stupid fights usually. But right now the word sits heavy on his shoulders.. because no one gets it. No one gets how much he adores Steve and Sarah, carrying them both so close to his heart. The anger he feels when his own mother spits ignorant words about the two of them, brushing them off because they don’t have much money -- calling Sarah a bad mother because Steve’s so frail and skinny, calling Steve a bad influence for getting him in fights when everything Steve does is good and brave. No one gets how in love with Steve he is, how he’d give this boy the entire world if he asked because he deserves everything and more. “She kept sayin’ awful things about you and mama. -- Told me I treat you better than my own family. I said you were family...” He trails off then. His face still feels raw from where her bare hand hit so hard he’s sure a mark still sits on his cheek. “She hit me.” He says finally and he can feel Steve shift. Soon small hands move to cup Bucky’s face, they are far gentler than his own mother’s. His head is lifted up so that Steve can now inspect Bucky’s face. By the look on the other’s face he can tells that Steve sees the fading mark on his face, his brow furrowing in a way that’s angry for a moment before those big sad eyes are looking at him. “Don’t. -- I know that stupid look on your face. I don’t want to hear you say you aren’t worth is, ‘cause you are to me. Both of you..” The two sit in silence for a bit longer. Steve replaces the harsh touch with his own gentle one until the other seems satisfied that the mark has finally disappeared from Bucky’s face.
“Can I stay in here with you?” He’s feeling fragile and vulnerable, while in the back of his mind he already knows the answer he still asks, he needs the reassurance that he’s wanted here. There is no hesitation in the other’s face when he nods, already moving to flick off the lamp while they get comfortable. Despite himself, Bucky is still trembling from the whole ordeal. “You want me to rub your back ’til you fall asleep?” Steve’s gentle voice asks. There is no mockery between the two of them, no poking fun that this is silly or childish. No instead there is nothing but understanding and the need for comfort. “Please.” The words are choked through another soft cry and Steve presses firmly up against his back as his hand meets the curve of his spine -- rubbing in easy slow circles. Steve’s voice is soothing as he tells Bucky that he’s safe here now and Bucky trusts him.
He doesn’t fall asleep for awhile, his emotions ebb and flow but the entire time Steve soothes him. It’s really because of moments like these that Bucky doesn’t regret his words, not even a little bit.
Bucky had bad days, the days were all consuming -- a once blank and vacant mind, now always swimming and spilling over with thoughts. Nightmares haunted his waking and sleeping hours, the man always looking over his shoulder, whispers and screams rocking him to his very core no matter what’s happening. Some days Bucky could put up with it, he could steel himself and ignore it, make himself feel whole for awhile. But there were others, like today, where even that didn’t work. Sometimes these days were triggered, seeing certain people, hearing certain words, certain actions threw Bucky tumbling down into a hole that he couldn’t often crawl up from for awhile. Sometimes it was just sudden, like a tidal wave crashing on a beach.. eventually the tide will pull away but for now the water drowns him.
Steve often does one of two things on these days and it’s all dependent on how bad that day is. Some days, Bucky will let Steve help, comfort him with just his presence.. others even seeing Steve triggers him worse. The thought of what he could of done to Steve, what he did do to Steve, haunts him like a ghost rattling chains in his face. So Steve keeps his distance like the good man Steve is and isn’t that just enraging? Steve’s so good, he’s always been good. Bucky swears up and down he doesn’t deserve that kindness -- he’s done things that would curdle even Steve’s blood. Even despite those actions being out of his control, he still sits with the guilt, with the blood on his hands. He drips red, hands shake with the weight of the world that he’s crushed with bare fingers. Yet even with bloodied fingers, and bullet holes in his chest, Steve cradles Bucky like he’s still innocent -- like he still matters. Steve’s done more than enough for him in this lifetime. It could almost make Bucky laugh at how they switched roles, the dark haired male was once the protector. Bucky would challenge anyone who dared even look at Steve Rogers wrong, often came home with bloodied knuckles and an angry word from his mother from all the after school scraps. Now things are different, there are no longer bullies running after Steve Rogers -- but instead it’s Steve Rogers fighting the world for Bucky. The only difference between their role reversal is that Steve has always been innocent.. and he himself isn’t. The sound of the vibranium shield hitting the floor still echos in his mind, the mantel created for Steve abandoned because Bucky is worth more than that in his lover’s eyes.
Lover. That’s a new fact in all of this, even after everything.. they’ve somehow ended up together. Bucky always tried to hide it when they were kids, it was illegal -- and even in Bucky’s then wild imagination he didn’t think Steve Rogers had ever given him more than half a glance in that sort of way. But come to find out the two of them were doing what they do best, they were being idiots. Both of them had been harboring feelings for one another for all those years -- all these years. It was a damp summer night when it happened, the two of them hidden out in Wakanda for a few years while the princess worked on releasing the triggers from his mind. Steve had been helping Bucky untie the sling that hid the absence of his left arm, their bodies a bit sore from the work the Wakandan farmers had put them through. It’s good work though, something simple but hard to keep Bucky sharp but not too stressed while he undergoes mind altering phases in the mornings. Steve’s fingers were lingering longer than normal, tracing along the scar that settles near his shoulder blade. He knows what Steve thinks he can see it in his eyes -- the other man blames himself. He blames everything that happened to Bucky on himself, all because he didn’t reach out fast enough, far enough. Bucky doesn’t think so, and in the moment he didn’t know how else to comfort his friend. So he let instincts take over, something he hadn’t done around Steve since being reunited because he was scared of them. But in this moment all Bucky had was instincts, he pushed a bit into Steve’s space -- stealing a kiss.
A knock on the doorframe of their shared room startles Bucky back into the moment. Steve stands leaning on the doorframe, a habit he’s always had and it makes his own lips quirk up in a small smile. He knows what Steve is doing, he knows Bucky is having a hard day and is waiting for Bucky’s choice of whether or not he can handle Steve at this moment. With a gentle nod, Bucky gives him approval but Steve doesn’t move. “What, you do something stupid?” He can’t help but ask, wondering if Steve’s about to pull those big sad blue eyes that crush his entire soul. Instead Steve heads to their bed, pulling the duvet off in one fluid motion. With his free hand, the taller man offers his hand out and Bucky watches him curiously for a moment before taking it. The sight of the living coming into his view brings out a surprised laugh from his mouth. As Bucky sat in their bedroom, staring blankly out the window, Steve had been setting up an entire fort out of their couch and other spare blankets. In that moment, Bucky feels whole again, remembers all those nights they’d crawl under ratty cushions and sit up all night whispering softly to one another -- both always covered in bruises and scratches or Steve coughing from some sort of ailment. As he looks over at Steve, he sees that kid again -- the small scrawny one, the one he fell in love with a million times a day, the kid that he’s still in love with after all of this. The kid that built a goddamn fort just for him because he knew he’d made him laugh.
“Well, what are you waiting for? You gotta throw that last blanket on for it to be complete.” He nudges Steve in the ribs with his elbow, which earns him a quick poke back. The maneuvering into the fort isn’t as easy as it used to be -- Steve’s bigger than Bucky now, which Bucky will always and forever playfully resent and even Bucky is bigger than he used to be. They’re pretty squished together, but that doesn’t matter. What matters here is that it’s warm, and Steve’s legs is tangled with his and Bucky’s got his good arm draped around his middle and Steve’s looking at him with those big blue eyes. Steve’s calloused fingers reach out to brush his hair from his face and Bucky would normally shut his eyes at the soft gesture but he wants to take this all in. He wants to hold this close to his heart, when his best boy did this all just for him. Bucky takes a deep breath in, pushing in close to drag his nose along the edge of Steve’s broad jaw. He presses the occasional gentle kiss to the man’s jaw, he feels the stubble on his lips. The actions earn him a breathy comment from Steve, asking him if he’s going soft which only makes Bucky chuckle warmly against the man’s throat, he can feel the goosebumps rise on his lover’s skin.
“I’ll stop being soft when it stops excitin’ you, Rogers.” He teases in return, his voice low in their new safe space. In response to his comment, Bucky gets dragged on top of Steve, his long hair now framing both of their faces. “You’re handsy.” He scoffs a bit, but the change in position is not unwelcome, in fact he quite likes it. Bucky makes himself comfortable on top of Steve, legs slotted together, head tucked under the other’s chin. “I dunno how long it’s gonna take for me to get used to the whole you bein’ bigger than me situation.” He earns a warm laugh from the man underneath him, which causes a slow secret smile to appear on his own face. He can’t say that he hates it though, being able to be surrounded by Steve Rogers on all sides? That seems like a pretty damn good plus side to all this. However a cheeky comment makes Bucky laugh louder than he intends, Steve asking him if it would help if he broke the uniform back out. “Your ass in those tights? I think that would make me come around real quick..” A pinch is given to Bucky’s side and the dark haired male nips playfully at Steve’s jaw in retaliation. This is how it should always be.. so maybe Bucky will begin to let the past go if it gets replaced by this future.
send me 💍 + a ship and i’ll tell you— whoever you wanna do :)

☁ five times my muse has thought about yours, and the one time they do something about it.
Tony Stark is the world’s most aggravating person. Ever since meeting the man on that fated day in 2012 there hasn’t been a day in Steve’s life that Tony isn’t in some part of his mind, and it’s annoying. It’s far too early in the morning for any normal person to be awake but Steve’s been asleep for far too long. So his fists hit sandbag, again and again and again -- until the bag is bursting and crashing violently against the wall of the empty gym. Stark knows every little button to press to piss Steve off and this meeting was no different. It was as if Tony was trying to undermine everything he was saying just to get a rise out of him. He guesses Tony got what he wanted, even if he doesn’t know it. Steve hooks up another punching bag, and hopes a few more hours of an intense work out will get Tony Stark out of his head. It doesn’t.
Tony Stark is the world’s most aggravating person. He also seems to be the world’s most charismatic at that. Hill is touring a group of new recruits around the compound, they’ve stopped at the training hall for the moment. Steve stands stiffly to the side as Tony takes the reigns and talks these kids’ ears off about all the training amenities they have that they’ve built. Amenities that they’re supposed to be training against and not talking up. Steve says Tony’s name sharply, reminding him that they were doing something, and that this isn’t a press conference. Tony of course does what he does best and makes a quip about Steve being an old man, a stickler for schedules and he’ll be upset that he misses his afternoon nap. So they get back to it, and Steve tries to shake the awed faces from his mind -- but it doesn’t work. He wonders if he looks the same way when Tony tries to charm him. He does.
Tony Stark is the world’s most aggravating person. He flirts with almost everyone he comes into contact to and Steve swears he doesn’t care. He doesn’t, he doesn’t care -- but goddamn he cares. He’s leaning against the bar of some little place Tony rented out for Rhodey’s birthday. Tony is sweet talking some little lady who is absolutely fawning over the most genius man of this century. Steve can think of nothing else but the way she placed her hand on his shoulder and Tony brushes it off. A funny sort of satisfaction sits low in his belly when he thinks about when he puts his hand on Tony’s shoulder and Tony doesn’t push it off. Steve has to remind himself that doesn’t mean anything. It does.
Tony Stark is the world’s most aggravating person. Even when he’s not around, the whole world still revolves around Tony Stark. Steve’s mind still revolves around him. Tony was whisked off to some company gala or something of that sort -- either way Tony’s in another country but all Steve can think about is him. It doesn’t help that the entire compound was created from the ground up by the man. It also doesn’t help that all of Tony’s tech is doing everything in it’s power to piss him off. Perhaps its just the annoyance of the day, or the lack of annoyance from a certain someone but with one hit, Steve busts the key pad and the door still refuses to open. Natasha opens a side door for him, she suggests that Steve calls Tony. Steve tells her it won’t help. It does.
Tony Stark is the world’s most aggravating person. Everything that outrageous man does is etched into his brain. This time it’s all because Tony tried to upgrade his utility belt. Steve shouldn’t feel smitten over the fact that he got an upgrade, a tiny one at that. It merely just added an upgraded organizational system and here Steve sits, turning it over in his hands, Tony gave it to him days ago. Still here he sits, swooning like a 40s school girl. God, Stark is irritating -- expect it’s not Tony’s fault. It’s Steve’s, he’s letting Tony get under his skin over the simplest things. The man finally puts the belt down and leaves it on his side table. He won’t let himself think about it for the rest of the day. He does.
Tony Stark is the world’s most aggravating person. He all-consuming. He’s loud and makes himself known in every sense of the word but Tony Stark is also soft and vulnerable. Tony Stark is a goddamn hurricane and Steve’s been letting him drown in this for far too long. Every goddamn day and night his thoughts are bombarded with what Tony could be up to or even selfishly and privately hoping Tony is thinking of him. Steve’s tired of this, this goddamn game he’s been playing with himself. He’s been denied so much in his life and Steve’s decided that these thoughts are going to turn into actions. It’s late, far too late for Steve to be doing this but he doesn’t care. The clock reads something close to two in the morning and Steve knows Tony well enough to know that he’ll still be awake. So with motorcycle keys and jacket in had he’s ducking out of his apartment. This could ruin everything between them, this confession -- this over spill of thoughts. It doesn’t.
☪ five times our muses almost hold hands, and the one time they do.
The first time it happens it’s during a meeting. Steve passes Wanda a file for her to look over. Their fingers touch but that is nothing out of the ordinary -- though when she motions for Steve to get closer and explain something to her, his hand rests on hers while it does. Its only for a moment, an accident -- Steve pulls his hand away quickly and Wanda is far too busy wondering why her the tips of her fingers feel alight to actually hear what he’s explaining to her. Wanda keeps that hand in a fist for the rest of the day.
The second time it happens it’s during a mission. They’re surrounded, Wanda’s back is towards the team -- she can handle half of the fire on her own. Though a whistle in the air tells her that some sort of missile is heading straight towards them. Wanda has two options, stop the missile and get shot or hold the fire and get hit by a missile. Though neither of plans get to come to fruition when Steve’s large hand grabs one of her glowing ones. Fear travels up her spine, afraid that she’s harmed him but she doesn’t have much time to be afraid. He’s dropping her hand in a quick manner, yelling in her ear to stop the missile and he covers her from the bullets. Her fingers feel alight again and at the end of the mission she sneaks glances at his hand as he removes his gloves in the quin-jet. No damage but she’s still doesn’t want him to ever do that again. She keeps her hands to herself for the rest of the week.
The third time it happens, it’s a movie night. Thor picks the movie -- he likes romantic movies it seems. Wanda doesn’t mind, she sits next to Steve, taking up as little room as possible so more people can fit on the couch. She’s got her knees pulled to her chest, her side pressed right up against Steve’s. She ignores the blooming warmth of her side in favor of focusing in on the movie. It happens when Steve get’s passed the popcorn, she can see it from the corner of her eye. God it’s cliche moment too, hands brushing while both grabbing handfuls of popcorn. It’s stupid and Wanda hates it, expect she doesn’t. That stupid feeling returns, the one that makes her want to cut her own hand off because she can feel the ghost of his touch until he touches her again. Wanda doesn’t get any more popcorn for the rest of the movie.
The fourth time it happens, it’s Natasha’s fault. Or Wanda would like to convince herself it’s Nat’s fault. Nat was the one who brought the vodka.. but it’s Clint’s fault for suggesting strip poker. It doesn’t matter, Wanda refuses to believe it’s her fault. However it ends with Clint in just his underwear, Nat’s missing her pants, Wanda is missing her shirt and Steve is still fully clothed. Wanda’s had a few too many to drink and now she’s convinced that Steve Rogers is a filthy cheater. So to prove it, Wanda tosses down her cards in a huff. She leans over to grab Steve’s hands, which are holding his hands of cards. Wanda holds his hands in hers until she’s seen his cards and in more annoyance her hands glide up his sleeves looking for hidden cards. All four of them laugh, the game soon abandoned once they find an ace up Steve’s sleeve. Wanda remembers in the morning.
The fifth time it happens, it’s in comfort. The job was a hard one, not just on Wanda but on everyone. The team is rattled but victorious... there wasn’t a loss of life on the team but there could of been. It’s hard to live with that, to stomach the idea of losing someone who’s now a part of her close knit little family. She leaves the quin-jet alone. She showers alone, she’s alone for a few days before she appears again. Steve’s waiting for her in front of the training facility, he stands and he’s got that goddamn knowing look on his face. The one that irritates but also comforts her to her very soul. He doesn’t say anything as she approaches, but he stands -- pushing into her space. It’s a simple brush of his fingers against her hand. It’s soft but it’s enough -- it’s encouragement. He tells her that she did all she could do and Wanda reminds Steve of the same thing. Wanda lets Steve touch her again later in training as he helps pull her up from a hit.
The sixth time it happens, Wanda doesn’t want to be here. They’re at a World Organization meeting, the world wants to thank the Avengers again for saving it. Expect Wanda doesn’t want to be here, she begged and pleaded not to go -- she did anything she could think of to get out of. Wanda isn’t an Avenger to the world, she’s a weapon of mass destruction-- she was an agent of chaos, at one point she was on the side of death to the Earth. Wanda is nothing but a traitor to the world but to the Avengers she’s one of them. Someone pokes their head into the room where they are being held as tells them that it’s time. Wanda wants to dig her heels into the ground and refuse. Steve seems to see the idea in her head and waits for the others for file out before approaching. He offers his hand out and Wanda hesitates. She knows by taking it, he will lead her onto that stage. But in this, is a promise -- one where he promises to defend her. She supposes she can take that chance only with Steve Rogers. So she takes a step forward and laces her fingers with his. Throughout the entire conference, in front of the entire world, Steve never lets go of her hand and Wanda is okay with that.
▲ five time my muse thought about kissing yours, and the one time they did.
The first time Fawna gets the urge to kiss Bucky is on a rainy day. The man ducked into her shop, long hair dripping onto her floor and an apology on his lips for doing so. Fawna wants to reach up and brush wet strands from his face, to press a kiss to his soaked lips. Instead she shakes her head and tells him to have a seat, he’s made himself a spot in the shop. Two chairs and a table are nestled there where Fawna takes breaks to have tea, but that’s where Bucky has made his home. But instead of kissing his rain soaked face, Fawna makes him tea.
The second time Fawna gets the urge to kiss Bucky it’s a late night. Fawna stays open late most nights, nightmares often running people into her little store. Everyone looking for a quick fix to soothe them back into the warm embraces of sleep. Bucky can’t stay all night with her, and she figures the man can’t. Fawna can see the tiredness settling in on the tired lines of his face. Eventually the man gets up from his place in the corner of her shop and bids her a quiet goodnight. Fawna wishes she could give him a good night kiss. But instead she just sees him off for the evening.
The third time Fawna gets the urge to kiss Bucky it’s a sunny day. Bucky’s best friend Steve has come in to say hello, the two sit in the corner -- Steve is sitting in Fawna’s chair.. but she can have her tea behind the counter. Steve says something to make Bucky laugh and Fawna suddenly can’t remember what she was doing. She’s taken a back for a moment, the sound echos off the shop walls and finds home in her chest. She wonders what it’s like to kiss him while he’s laughing -- all warm honey and sweet. But instead she remembers she’s sweeping and forces herself to get back to it.
The fourth time Fawna gets the urge to kiss Bucky it’s a.. different day. Bucky came in different, quiet -- silent. A sort of sadness washes over the entire shop. It’s clear that Bucky does not want to hold conversation so Fawna doesn’t attempt, though she wishes she could soothe him. She wishes she could wrap the man up in her arms and hold him there, press kisses to his sullen look. She wants him to press his weight into her and let his sadness seep into her where she could keep it for him. Instead she leaves him to his sadness and lets Bucky speak to her on his own terms.
The fifth time Fawna gets the urge to kiss Bucky it’s a normal day. Nothing seems out of the ordinary, things go as planned. People come in, people leave -- some with products other’s without. Bucky sits his the corner, observes and makes comments when people leave that make Fawna laugh. She wants to kiss him, it’s a mundane thing -- it’s a normal moment, one that most lovers must have the need to kiss the partner when they make them happy and god does Bucky make her happy.. but they are not lovers. So instead Fawna let’s herself laugh, let’s herself still be happy in his company.
The sixth time Fawna gets the urge to kiss Bucky it’s snowing. The snow slows nighttime business time, not many people want to brave the bitter cold even with the worst of nightmares. So Fawna is closing up shop early for the evening. Bucky insists on walking her home, despite her telling him not to. Fawna knows he hates the cold. Bucky does it anyways. As they finally reach Fawna’s apartment building, the woman lingers. She glances over at Bucky and again as he always does -- takes her breath away. The streetlights make his blue eyes look almost silver and the snow flurries that catch in his long dark hair create such a strong contrast it makes her giggle. Her fingers reach up to brush some of it from the strands of hair and she finally can’t help herself. She presses up onto her toes and presses a gentle kiss to his lips.
