Symmetrical vs. Asymmetrical

Symmetrical:

design is exactly the same on both sides

stable, strength, authority, control, balanced, safe

resolved... ex) pyramid, buddha, or mirror image

Asymmetrical: 

different on right and left sides of the body

design or shape differs for variety, contrast, complexity, excitement, creative risk taking

mobility, potential loss of balance

Symmetrical Sequence- movements to the right are mirrored by movements to the left, and vice versa. 

In class, we brought in three different pictures and had to explain how we thought our pictures fit the symmetrical or asymmetrical category. I picked a photograph that I took while on my trip to Europe. This specific picture was taken in a busy ally way in downtown London. 

I would consider this picture angular and symmetrical. This picture reminds me of the busy streets of London, and everyone walking in a machine like manor, very angular style walking. The lights hanging are all 90 degree angles and very straight. It seems symmetrical to me as well because if you divide down the center of the road there are buildings on both sides!
