Secret Revealed

His fur was soaked with blood. 

Some his, some his own. 

What did it matter?

The beast left a trail of his blood all the way to his own doorway, collapsing right there in it. Damn it, this was his territory. His scent was all over the place, so why did that other wolf stray into his forest? It gave him a lot to think about. It was faster. It was bigger. He wondered if he'd killed it. Who knew. Right now all the giant brown wolf wanted to do was find his peace. 

Consciousness was coming back, slowly. The sun would be up any minute now and the nightmare would be over until the following month, when it would start all over again. It whined, closing it's eyes tiredly and lay still. Waiting for morning.
