I hope you'll be able to help, me I'm relatively new to the rat world, I've got 2 dumbo boys, there brothers and I bought them together a couple of weeks ago, I've just put them into there new, bigger cage that previously had 2 female rats in it. They've been in it for just over an hour now and they've done nothing but run around nuts and jump on and chew at eachother, which is very unlike them they are usually very very lazy and chilled. Is this normal or some kind of weird reaction to scents?

that sounds relatively normal to us - even the most chill rats can get over-excited when theyre in a new environment~ its possible that scent has something to do with it, but if the cage has been thoroughly cleaned before introducing them then its probably not a huge factor - more than likely theyre just excited over a new and interesting space. - L

I agree with the above, and add that, even though theyre small, rats are territorial. What’s happening is this new environment has woken up the “I owned this first!” drive in your boys. It’s a race to work out who is the new king of the pen. This behavior might last a few hours or a few days, but it’s nothing to worry about at all. Littermates very, very rarely turn on each other, and I doubt very much that this is that. This is just a couple of dudes who’ve moved into a new apartment and who’re in the midst of fighting over who gets the biggest space. Nothing to worry about. - Seb
