Misti-Con - the absolute best HP con
Hey loves, I’ve been asked to share a bit about something that’s very near and dear to my heart... Misti-Con!
Some of my long-time followers have heard me rave about this amazing Harry Potter convention that happens every two years in the northeastern US and I honestly can’t gush about it enough. This July is my third Misti and I am so excited I can barely wait.
Misti is a relatively small con, limited to 600 attendees and it is completely immersive. Once you enter the hotel it’s like entering the Wizarding World and even if it’s your first time attending, it immediately feels like home. There is a welcoming feast, panels on every subject you can imagine, a literary track for us writers that features published authors and fanfic writers as well as workshops, a wizarding bazaar, a fancy ball, wizard wrock concerts, and so much entertainment and things to do it’s tough to list it all.
At the core of Misti though is a sense of belonging and that rings especially true for the LGBTQ+ community. At check-in last Misti there was a bowl of pronoun pins free for any attendee to wear to make sure everyone feels comfortable being addressed. I attended a few LGBTQ+ panels centered on not only real life issues, but also to discuss themes in the HP world. It sounds so silly to say, but it’s so LGBTQ+ friendly that as someone who knows a ton of people that attend this con I am honestly hard-pressed to name more than two or three people that aren’t part part of the community. That’s not to say it’s not straight-friendly! It’s just such a welcoming and inclusive environment that it doesn’t matter your gender, sexuality, or anything other than the fact we all love HP.
I’ve been to literally hundreds of cons over the last 20 years, both huge and really small, but Misti is my absolute favorite by far. I’ve attended cons as both a reporter and a fan, working comic booths with my cousin years ago when he owned his store, done the huge ones with 70k people, small ones with 300, and nothing compares to Misti-Con.
I am so excited to go again this year and see friends from all over the world that I only get to spend time with here. I’ve met so many amazing people through Misti (including the infamous Gay Husband ™) and I am blessed to be able to finally meet some of my online friends at this upcoming Misti that are coming from as far as England and France. We also have regular attendees from New Zealand and Australia! It’s such a fabulous time that people from all over the globe attend.

On a side note, for the first time we have a large Wolfstar-fan contingent attending and I am ridiculously happy about this. lol Wolfstar-lovers are a minority there usually, though well-respected. The con doesn’t allow any bashing of any kind including ship wars, unless it’s done in a friendly manner. Just another perk of Misti!
