I really don't know what's the difference between a circle and a compass round. Which one works better? I'm a baby witch and I havent done any rituals bc I'm afraid not to do the protections right.
The basic difference is that circles come from High Magic (which is ceremonial magic, not that it is higher than anything). It is used among Wiccans. The Compass is used mostly in “traditional” witchcraft. Some say that traditionalists use the compass solely when they are to do magic, to contain it and to protect themselves, for the land is sacred already and they do not need to lay a compass to do devotional work. Wiccans and ceremonial magic use it for both devotional and magical uses. You can find better definitions by looking up some of the texts Gemma Gary wrote on the topic. I don’t know if this is the best definition there is on the topic, but I can say that the best way to protect yourself while doing magic is to know that your protection (circle, compass, spell, etc.) works. Believe 100% in it and it’ll work.
