The last thing Draken remembers... is the desperate surge of fear he’d felt as his eyes had slid shut against his will.
He thought he’d been ready to see Emma again. He’d wanted to see her more than anything. He still does, but... whenever Mikey came into his thoughts, all Draken could think about was how he’d let him down. He’d wanted to save him, to bring him back, but in the end, he hadn’t managed to do anything at all, had he?
Useless. ...Why hadn’t he seen it earlier? Why hadn’t he seen the burden that had been weighing Mikey down for so long? He’d always hidden it well, with that blinding smile of his, but that’s no excuse. Draken is supposed to be Mikey’s right-hand man, his closest friend. If Mikey couldn’t rely on him, then...
No, Draken had thought. I’m not ready to die.
So when he suddenly wakes up to see Mikey’s face looking down at him, he doesn’t know what to think. Mikey seems... younger. Healthier, a little. The bags under his eyes have vanished, and it almost feels like he’s reliving an old memory - back when things had been better, when Draken had been happy.
What’s going on?
“...Mikey?”
