First let me clarify that I JUST heard this from a 13 years old kid 90 minutes ago and it makes me really happy for many reasons
For one , he apparently figured out I’m queer on his own. ( good Gaydar, kid. 👍🏼) And this is important to me cause I’m “one of those people who doesn’t look gay, at all” 😭 *cries in gay*
2. He is a boy shipping a NON-canon friendship. Wrap your mind around that for a second cause for you it might seems like is no biggie but for MOST people ( even queer ones) it is.
3. I learned something I didn’t know. 🤷🏻♀️ always a good thing.
Ok so here is the backstory:
For the few of you who don’t know , Ethel Hallow ( left) and Mildred Hubble ( right) are the lead characters on a Netflix tv show called “The Worst Witch” ( reboot ) and they DO NOT GET ALONG..... at all. They bicker, the fight, they try to kill/harm each other ( on purpose? Maybe not but kinda sorta maybe ?) at least twice by episode. 😅 witches, am I right?
Anyway, so I asked Timothy ( not his real name) to tell me where he got his “idea for the ship name” from. He told me that on season 2 the Headmistress of the Academy puts a spell on Ethel and Mildred so they’ll remained conjoined by the wrists until they can get along .
Just picture the level of craziness that must have ensued in order for the HEADMISTRESS to recourse to such extremes 😱.
Anyhow, since they basically were one person, their classmates mushed up their names together and created “Mithel” ( or Ethred if you ask Ethel Hallow 😅) to make it easier for everyone to address them and that’s why they are called like Mithel.
(Damn you writers and your clever ways to included pop culture ito everything )
Ok so , As far as their relationship goes there is only envy and animosity between them ( at least on season one) and it’s pretty much Ethel taking it on Mildred for messing up constantly and getting away with it ( she really is just a clumsy person) and Ethel trying to get Mildred expelled. Mildred on the other hand, is CONSTANTLY messing up and most of the time it ends up affecting Ethel Hallow . there is more to it but I don’t wanna spoil it too much for you.
But in the words of Tim: “it’s like they are magnets or that Mildred’s magic keeps bringing them together ”.
And it could be true, although since it IS Mildred Hubble’s magic, it brings them together in the WORST POSSIBLE WAY ( poor Ethel must take at LEAST 3 showers per day cause of Mildred always spilling something on her 🤦🏻♀️)
Unlikely as it might be, apparently these two start to get along a little bit on season two so I can understand why Timothy; turning a bit red, confessed he was hoping they became best friends or girlfriends instead of fighting all the time.
🤔 what’s interesting about this whole thing is that the Interplay HE perceives in their relationship is the same one WE as adults also see in our “grown-up ships like Swanqueen.:
-blond +brunette
-one clumsy and not well put together
-one well put together, strict AF and with mommy issues
-Having a go at each other and blaming each other for whatever bad thing that happens to them
-Being at each other’s throats all the time
-Having to work together in order to solve something
-begrudgingly accepting when the other does something right
-Shooting daggers at each other
- Slowly becoming friends and accepting help for the other ones in a while.
But needless to say, in those Ships we see their constant clashingalso as “sexual tension” ( adults a so gross sometimes... most of the time.... all of the time!) however this sweet kid instead sees it as them
“secretly liking each other, but because they are so stubborn they both refuse to admit it and keep being idiots”.
( he meant iking not in a romantic way. Well, he sorta implied that too, though I don’t think he meant it that way)
To be honest, I just finished watching season one so I can’t say for sure wether my little friend is reading the situation correctly or not but that’s beside the point anyway since

What I do know is that it’s quite interesting to see how different adults and kids perceive interpret certain behaviors and that if it wasn’t because of this chatty boy , I would never have remembered that kids also “ship” people 😅
