"in a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard—they don’t have to be the "right" or "great" works, just the ones that have touched you. tag [ten] friends (including me) so i’ll see your list. make sure your friends know you’ve tagged them…"
I was tagged by throughthebarbedwire a realllyyy long time ago and didn't see it until now but whatever. I added explanations because can.
1. Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien - The classic. While other obsessions may wax and wane, LOTR has remained a constant in my life ever since I read the first line of The Hobbit.
2. Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan - I really grew up with Percy and I remember reading the public library's brand new copy of The Lightning Thief (the first edition with the metallic-ish cover). I got to know the characters in depth over years and it's scary that the last book comes out this October. It's kind of like the end of my childhood especially since I'm going to college next year.
3. Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud - London ruled by magicians with djinni slaves? Why not. I was genuinely shocked and upset by its ending.
4. Abhorsen by Garth Nix - This is the standard I hold all other YA fantasy books to, one of the most creative magic systems ever.
5. The Color of Distance by Amy Thomson - Aliens. But not little green men. Frog-aliens? Hard to describe, just read it.
6. Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder - I'm actually a sucker for books about the day to day lives about ordinary people like Here Today or The Trolley Car Family.
7. The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness - A;aldskfja;dslfkj no words I love this book and its sequels so much.
8. His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman - Gets into such heavy stuff by the last book... When I finished, I had to reread the last few parts a couple times. Idk very few books can match the kind of emotional depth I felt at its conclusion.
9. Tunnel in the Sky by Robert A. Heinlein - After you read Lord of the Flies and feel really depressed about humanity, turn to this book.
10. Days of Becoming by Talktooloose - So this last one is actually a fanfiction novel but wow it is so worthy. I loved the X-Men movies but this really brought them to life and gave me my OTP.
