How ironic is it that Megumi x Nobara, or FushiKugi if you may, eventually became the second favorite OTP of mine from Jujutsu Kaisen and now that i ponder about why did that really happen?

It is because their archetypal design and envisioned roles are similar to MitsuSara.

Think about it:

The calm, calculated boy who is supremely gifted and incredibly popular among girls, and forged a strong friendship with the protagonist which was a key-part in the prologue of the story.

The stoic and more hot-blooded girl that is also talented herself, and she is quite beautiful in spite of her bewildering nature, and quickly forms a deep bond with the protagonist.

From the way the boys lay their beaming gaze upon the girls when they are not aware, to the myriad of times they are paired together in official artworks and merchandises, and the quests which they carry in the canon lore that unveils a mutually deep understanding of each other and being fond of one another on such an extent that renders them more of romantic soulmates than devoted friends.

Then you can turn your attention to the writing quality and how the authors failed the boys in many ways, prevented them from realizing their true potential due to blatant favoritism towards other characters. And the girls who are used not with great care and that too robs them of a chance to shine as bright as they should.

Aesthetically and essentially, the two pairings are not exactly beloved by the majority yet the factor of unconditional love in their bonds is undeniable, and the fandom are quick to lash out on those who ship Megumi x Nobara or Mitsuki x Sarada because of competition. Oh, and their supporters are absurdly more peaceful than other breeds in the respective communities.
