There was one café Brianna frequented throughout her time in college. Mostly because every week, they had an open mic night for different singers and performers. So, when she met Jujubee during her junior year, she started bringing her along. And when they started dating, she started pushing her to perform as well.

“Come on, I’ve heard you sing, you’d kill this,” she insisted. “There’s like, twenty people on an average, it’s not even a big crowd.”

“It’s still twenty more than I usually sit in front of,” Jujubee defended. “I only ever sing in front of my cats, and that’s already a judgemental crowd.”

Brianna frowned and put a hand on her shoulder. “These people aren’t judgemental. I’ve seen people totally bomb and they still got applause.”

Jujubee chewed her lip in thought. “What if we do a duet? That way I can like, ease into it. And if I freak out, I can just leave and you can finish it out.”

“Okay, deal.”

When that Friday night rolled around, Jujubee was having second thoughts. “Maybe we should’ve practiced more, I’m not feeling so hot about this,” she warned, anxiously tapping her fingers against the table.

“Listen to me,” Brianna said calmly, but firmly. “You got this, I’m gonna be with you the whole time, and I believe in you.”

She exhaled deeply, letting her girlfriend’s words put her at ease. “Alright, I’m okay. Sorry, I know worrying and overthinking is usually your gig.”

“Oh good, you’re back to normal,” Brianna chuckled, looking back up to the stage as the person before them finished up their number. “Let’s go.”

Jujubee followed Brianna onto the stage, reflexively reaching out and squeezing her hand. As the music started to play, she was able to just sing without thinking about it, losing herself in their performance.

“See? That wasn’t so bad,” Brianna smiled as they went back to their table.

“Fine, you win,” Jujubee sighed dramatically. “Might even go by myself next time.”

Brianna knows that being a hitwoman is always a double edged weapon - her missions can go either incredibly well or incredibly south, but she prides herself in never leaving a target alive. One way or another, she gets the job done.

Even if that means ending up mildly-unconscious in an alley, with more than a dozen of other hitmen pointing their guns at her.

Breathing is a struggle, as well as keeping her eyes open, but she’ll be damned if she leaves her target alive.

“Hold your fire!” A voice raises above the mayhem, and Brianna shuts her eyes as steps echo through the alley, anticipating a deadly blow. But it never arrives. “Well, well, well, so this is the little rat Chad hired to take Raven out.”

Who the fuck is Chad? Brianna is tempted to ask, but her voice fails her and a broken sob comes out instead. Her clients never give out their names and she doesn’t ask, anyway.

“Who would’ve thought someone so petite could do so much damage.” Brianna finally snaps her eyes open, and she sees a tall woman with long brown hair, looking amusedly at her.

Brianna tries to form a sentence, but something similar to a choking noise comes out of her mouth instead. The woman kneels down next to her, looking at her with a feeling she can’t quite put a finger on.

“Just end her suffering, Juju!” An annoyed voice shouts from behind, but the woman - Juju, she knows now - raises a hand and shushes them.

“No, I don’t think I will,” she says vaguely, “Come to think of it, I know her - she’d be a great addition to our people,” Juju declares, standing up and speaking to the men behind her in a language Brianna doesn’t recognize.

Brianna tries to move and fight off the men that pick her up, she really tries, but her head feels like it’s about to crack open and their grip on her is so tight she eventually gives up. She registers a hand creeping on her cheek before she’s dropped in the back of a car, and Juju’s voice fighting with someone sitting on the other side of the car.

Mizbee is no stranger to a trip-hop track

Having released 'Joy' in the tail end of 2019, Mizbee returns with a sinister trip-hop record titled 'Stranger'. Gritty, moody and eerie, the track is reminiscent to Portishead's Cowboys. Mizbee has been established as a feature vocalist for House and Techno DJs since 2012. A far removal from the Drum n Bass MCing she had been well-known for around the Newcastle rave scene, with a regular spot at Curves MCing for some of DnB’s most well respected artists on a weekly basis. Mizbee - Joy - Out Now

North east feature vocalist releases solo debut with Roni Size remix Mizbee has been established as a feature vocalist for House and Techno DJs since 2012. A far removal from the Drum n Bass MCing she had been well-known for around the Newcastle rave scene, with a regular spot at Curves MCing for some of DnB’s most well respected artists on a weekly basis. It was during this time that a chance encounter with fellow Geordie producer, Railinz would quickly lead to the song Joy being written - one of the flagship tracks taken from the forthcoming debut album is also Mizbee’s debut single as a solo artist. With a vocal as effortlessly listenable as Joy, it was inevitable remixers would soon start knocking on the door. The first remix would come almost immediately after the song was written, with NU-Disco Groovers, Dusted Angels tapping straight into the source, whipping the a cappella from Railinz studio and layering it over super sexy smooth disco beats, taking the song on a whole new journey of its own. Mizbee also wanted to pay homage to the two worlds that had played such a big part in her musical journey to date by having one remix from the Drum n Bass world and one from the House world, first up coming from her long term collaborating partner, Mark Jenkyns, who delivers a straight to the floor, heads down House banger. Focusing on small vocal snippets whilst using some of the trippy musical elements from the back of the class to keep you sweating and waiting for the next drop. When it came to finding the right producer for the Drum N Bass remix, the universe would also provide, when a Mutual friend happened to be playing Joy in the company of DnB royalty, Roni Size, who upon hearing the track made his intentions very clear and as if no time had passed at all, delivered a scorching hot remix. With a sound taking us back to the Touching Down days, Roni continues to prove his finger remains firmly on the pulse of dance culture, giving his classic Full Cycle energy a straight-to-the-point modern twist with an emotive aura drifting dreamily through the breakdowns.
