Chapter 4: Stargazing/Nighttime Activities
Mel stared at her phone in disbelief.
"What's wrong, beautiful?" Jayce asked, leaning over from behind her to kiss her cheek on his way to the suite's kitchenette.
"I think Elora has blocked me," she said, still staring at the phone, even though it had timed out and turned the screen off. "I'm not even going to voicemail. It just rings a couple of times and disconnects."
"Huh." Jayce found a protein bar and opened it. "You want anything while I'm in here?"
"No, but we should make Viktor eat."
"Viktor has eaten," Viktor yelled from the bedroom.
"Since breakfast?" Jayce yelled back.
A couple of moments later, Viktor came into the living room, frowning. "Did I miss dinner?"
"No," Mel said, smiling at him fondly. "But you did miss lunch. You should have a snack."
"Pfah," Viktor dismissed. "I have been eating a ridiculous amount at both breakfast and dinner. I do not need any other food."
"Fine," Jayce said, before Mel could argue with him some more. "Piña colada?"
"Mmm, yes, thank you. I will wait on the patio."
"Be there in a sec," Jayce promised. As soon as he'd gone, Jayce turned back to Mel, eyebrows raised.
She rolled her eyes. "It's calories, it will do." Jayce had always been better than Mel at convincing Viktor to eat.
"And he usually eats the fruit garnish," Jayce pointed out. "But what I really want to know is, why are you trying to call Elora?"

Chapter 1: Vacation
"What if," Jayce said, "and hear me out... What if we said we were going on vacation, but actually stayed home and worked?"
"Yes!" Viktor said, perking up hopefully.
"No," Mel said, and both men drooped.
"Come on," Jayce pleaded. "We're not really vacation people."
Viktor nodded in fervent agreement. "We do not... relax." He said the word with the same utter disdain that Mel reserved for off-the-rack.
"I am aware," she said. "Neither of you has taken a vacation since before I started dating you, which was nearly ten years ago. However, you are driving your assistant mad."
Viktor said, "Sky adores us!"
"Sky loves working for us!" said Jayce.
"She does," Mel agreed. "And that is why she has conspired to force you two to take a vacation and give her a break from you before you make her so crazy that she quits. And probably blows up your lab in the process. Possibly with the both of you still in it."
"That seems a bit extreme," Viktor said.
"Tell me, when was your last vacation?" Mel asked pointedly.
Jayce looked at Viktor.
Viktor looked at Jayce.
They stared at each other for a long moment, and then Jayce snapped his fingers. "Our honeymoon!" he said triumphantly. Then he frowned and pulled out his phone to check the date. "Huh. Our fifteenth anniversary is coming up."
"We do not celebrate that one anymore," Viktor reminded him. "Our anniversary with Mel will be this fall."
"Right," Jayce said, still frowning at his phone. "Right."

Chapter 7: Ice Cream / Free Day
Mel slotted herself between her men and sat on Viktor's lap, impeding his ability to work.
His arm wrapped around her back automatically to steady her, but he kept scrawling on the notepad without being able to see what he was writing, because he'd already started that thought and there would be no stopping him until it was done.
She wasn't sure Jayce had even noticed she was there; he was drawing on a different notepad.
Mel waited them out.
Eventually, Viktor realized he couldn't see the notepad anymore, and he blinked at her absently. "Mel?" He looked around, still slightly dazed. "How long have you been sitting here?"
She laughed. "Only a few minutes."
"Oh. Good. Should I get Jayce's attention as well?"
"That would be nice, thank you."
"Of course." Viktor didn't deal in subtle. He reached over and pulled the notepad out from under Jayce's pencil.
"Hey! I was still-- Oh. Hi, Mel." Jayce grinned at her "Sorry. Mad scientists at work, you know how it is."
"I do," she agreed, because she'd accepted this when she'd agreed to move in with them.
"What can we do for you, Ms. Medarda?" Viktor asked.
"We're going home tomorrow," Mel said.
"Yeah," Jayce said. "Looking forward to it, really."
"Me, too," Mel agreed, because over the past two weeks, Elora had unblocked her number exactly twice to text: All is going well. You may ask me ONE question and then I'm blocking you again.
Mel trusted Elora, of course she did, but she needed to be back in the office. And she knew that Viktor and Jayce felt that same need to be back in the lab.
Still, they had one more day of vacation. She brushed her fingers through Viktor's hair. His habit of playing with it absently when he was working had left it ruffled and slightly tangled, and she smoothed it back down for him. "I want a last hurrah," she told them.

Chapter 3: Nightclub
They tried five different nightclubs before they found one with music that Mel liked and a dance floor that Jayce found acceptable.
Viktor didn't care where they went. He wasn't there to dance.
None of them had gone clubbing in years, but they all remembered how it worked.
Jayce swept through the door with Mel on his arm, and Viktor followed a few steps behind. All three of them were older than the average denizen of the club, but all of them turned heads anyway.
Jayce led Mel onto the dance floor, muscling his way in to clear space for them. Viktor went to the bar and ordered something drenched in rum and sugar and garnished with an entire fruit salad. He waited until the drink had been set in front of him before turning on his stool to watch them.
Jayce had started taking dance classes a couple of years after he and Viktor had married. He'd broken his leg in a bad fall and couldn't handle the pain of running anymore, and the doctor had recommended dance as a slightly lower-impact alternative to help him stay in shape. That was where he'd met Mel, and the chemistry between them had been immediately electric. They both still went to the classes together, though less often now, because their schedules were terrible and didn't line up as often as they'd like.
Neither of them cared for club dancing, but they didn't have to. As beautiful and skilled as they were, other dancers always ceded them whatever space they needed.
When Viktor turned around with his drink, they were still on the edge of the dance floor, slow-dancing to a song that absolutely was not slow. Mel's eyes were on Viktor, though, and when she saw that he was looking their way, she said something into Jayce's ear, who then also turned to look.
Jayce kissed Mel's hand, his eyes on Viktor, and then winked.
Viktor silently saluted them with his sugar-bomb of a drink, and leaned back against the bar to watch the show.

Chapter 2: Pools and Beaches
"This hasn't been too bad," Mel said, stretching luxuriously, "so far."
Jayce, who hadn't caught his breath yet, thought she was underselling it a bit. "So far," he corrected, "it's been amazing."
Several hours ago, they had arrived at the very exclusive resort where Sky and Elora had sent them, checked in, and been led to a lovely suite with a private patio that opened directly onto the beach; a kitchenette already stocked with assorted snacks and the makings for margaritas and piña coladas; a lounge equipped with a surprisingly comfortable couch and a TV large enough to give them the movie experience; a bathroom with a tub big enough for all three of them to fit comfortably; and a bedroom with a bed big enough for a small orgy.
By unspoken agreement, they'd tested the bed first. It had been a while since they'd been able to take so much time for sex, especially with all three of them together. Jayce was feeling more relaxed than he'd been in months.

Chapter 6: Skinny Dipping
"I want to go swimming," Mel said.
Viktor looked up from the table where he and Jayce were working out designs for a fully-accessible jet-ski. "I thought you said all of the swimsuits you brought were for seeing, not swimming."
"That's correct," she said.
"Did you get a new one for swimming?" Jayce asked, looking up from their third interface concept.
"No."
"I have some confusion," Jayce admitted, and leaned back in his seat. "Do you want us to go buy you one?"
"No," Mel said. "I want you two to come swimming with me."
"I do not swim," Viktor pointed out.
"You don't have to actually swim," Mel said. "Just come down to the beach and get in the water with me."
She reached out a hand, and Viktor took it without hesitation. "But if you do not have a suit..."
Mel rolled her eyes.
Jayce sat up straight, his eyes lighting up. "Wait, really?" He twisted around to look out the window. "What time is it?"
"Nearly midnight," Viktor reported. "What are you seeing that I am missing?"
Jayce grinned at him. "There won't be anyone else on the beach this late."
"Most likely true."
"So we don't need swimsuits," Mel filled in.
"You want me to go skinny-dipping," Viktor said, "in the ocean. On a clothing-required beach. In the middle of the night."
"Yes."

Chapter 5: Water Games
Jayce wasn't entirely certain how he'd gotten roped into this.
He'd been talking to one of the resort staff about the activities on offer, and then she'd said... something? And now he was standing on the beach in his swimsuit, face to face with some guy he'd never met before because his traitorous spouses were up at the top of the beach, supposedly cheering him on, instead of standing here with him.
He could probably excuse Viktor; the sand did not provide a firm enough surface for Viktor's cane, so he didn't want to walk on the beach unless Jayce or Mel were able to help support him. Which was fair.
But Mel's excuse was that her itty-bitty swimsuit (which Jayce appreciated very much) was designed for seeing, not swimming.
"But there's no swimming in this! It's just a water ballon toss!"
"I'm not getting this suit wet," she'd said firmly.
Viktor had leaned in to whisper something against her ear that made her laugh and also smack Viktor's arm. "Stop that," she said, then turned to Jayce. "No. Viktor and I are going to sit up here and cheer for you. Have fun, darling!"
